hi all,
got a 99 hilux rwd ( ) as a daily recently (summer time haha).

-when the rains came, i noticed that the wiper stalk regardless of position would run the blades at top speed.
-i also noticed that it popped fuses regularly, and apparently randomly.
-popped a fuse the other day; replaced and the fuse; went to test; and something in either the steering column (near the wiper stalk) popped, or may have been behind the dash, can not be 100% certain.
-now the wipers are kaput, will not work with replacement fuses.

-i should mention that the the cd player doesnt work. never has... never been investigated. possibly related??


has anyone had this, or similar experience?
how did you overcome it?


as far as i am concerned, electronics are a dark art form
so hoping for a replacement part being the fix, opposed to tracing wires and hunting shorts

If the problem had been dealt with in a timely fashion, it have been handled by part replacement, but at this point I suspect you're going to tracing wires.

I had a very similar problem with my GV when I bought it - the GV's wiper motor is behind the battery, and the problem was corrosion from leaked battery acid - replacing the wiper motor would have fixed it, but I chose to rewire the damaged wiring (between the motor itself and the harness connector) - you could look see where your Hilux' wiper motor is - you might get lucky.
