Post subject:  M18A JIMNY ECONOMY????
G,day all...Just wondering what is the km's most people are getting out of their Jimnys full tank? I never took notice of mine when I had the M13A in it but now I am running the M18A I have noticed that im getting around 400-450kms to a full tank? Is this acceptable do you think?
From full to half a tank I average around 200kms,the guage seems to move quickly down to the half way mark,or maybe im expecting to much after coming from a fuel miser vw golf diesel?
Maybe I may notice a bit of a difference when the Exhaust gets done :|
I do alot of driving so always seem to be topping up with fuel.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Sounds like you're getting better than 10l/100km- I'd imagine that's as good as you could expect.

Yep, probably better then average if you are taking tyre size into account with those km.

I don't remember getting anything over 440-450 per tank when ours was brand new and stock standard.

Those days it's still got the 1.3 but with a lift, roof basket on permanently and bigger mud tires we get about 370-380 per tank on average according to the trip meter. If I allow for the bigger tires, I'm still getting around the 10l/100km.

GraphicX do you have the china headders from WMD 4x4?

PaulW has them too, and had o2 sensor problems. just wondering if they are causing us to run rich due to the o2 sensor detecting leaning out

name of the game, add 5-7 " of lift or put shit up on the roof in the wind and, suddenly, your pushing more wind! who would have thought that!

also who is running auto transfers behind vvt manual boxes? that and the lift are the bigest step changes in my economy

I get slightly better... about 190km for half a tank.. or potentially 380 if ran it dry. Roof rack, rear draws with lots of crap in the car, and dual battery. Stock tyres also And auto vvt.

Pretty sure my brother gets 350 or more to a tank. He has a 3inch lift, bulbar, 30s and an auto T case.

Oh okay.some pretty interesting results there,mines an Automatic as well so it seems to be pretty standard economy then.
I wonder if the extractors and new exhaust would make a difference then? You would think so?
I already have the extractors,don't know the brand but apparently they were made in oz and look of good build,and yes I got them off of fleabay after doing research so I hope they're ok?

Well it is hilly around my area,and I do hoof it sometimes but mainly try to drive efficiently,chasing economy,and i won't be changing my wheels anytime soon as I like the factory alloys...perhaps a lift kit one day.

A few days ago I was reading a white paper on vehicle aerodynamics and it seems one of the biggest influences is the amount of air flowing under the vehicle - a lift really messes that up!

I've read reports of ram truck owners claiming economy went in the bin once they removed the 3" plastic lip under the bumper. Yes, airflow under the car is super critical.

well suddenly the diff's are catching wind instead of hiding behind the front plastics. also bull bars are horrible for economy, expecially if the top of your tyre is exposed to airflow.
the top of your tyres are doing 200kph relative to the air hitting the front of the car, and "Of particular importance is the u^2 dependence on flow velocity, meaning that fluid drag increases with the square of flow velocity"

I managed 310km to 27.8 litres of fuel the other day... about the best economy I've had in the Jimny, flat highway driving. Funnily enough, a day later drove back from Brisbane-Warwick, 70km/h headwind the whole way, 165km to half a tank....

The worst I've had in my Jimny was 34km to a 1/4 of a tank after the engine was rebuilt.

I've driven Melbourne to Sydney and back a couple of times now in the Jimny, recently added the roof basket with crap up top that won't help with aero dynamics and it's me, the missus and the dog in the back (all 40kg of him).

I left from Sydney with a full tank, got to the Dog on Tuckerbox stop and still had just over a 1/4 of a tank left, I figured I would make it to the next fuel station no problem before I ran out, well the next fuel stop was Holbrook and it felt like it took forever! I was on yellow light for around 50 km's and was worried I'd end up in bum F&^% nowhere and I didn't want to find out why it was called that!

Anyway the odometer when I rolled into Holbrook said we were just shy of 500km's. So a full tank got us very close to 500 km and I didn't want to find out how much further it would go.

Google maps shows that 1/4 tank was 126kms.

M13A - 2008 Jimny, all stock.

So if you're getting that with a 1.8 ltr I'd say you're doing well.
