Post subject:  Vitara and GV wheel bearing/axle dimensions

Hey all,

Need help from the Suzuki gods...

To get my car engineered (yes, I'm still trying... can't let go...) I need to try to establish that the stock SV620 running gear will be fine with the XL7 rims (offset being the main concern.) A convenient way to establish this would be to compare the dimensions of the wheel bearings, as this also indicates both the axle and diff tube or spindle sizes.

So, what I would love to find out is the ID, OD, and any other specs, front and rear, of the following: (the list is extensive because there seem to be a bunch of differing and contradictory spec sheets available)
1993 1.6 LWB SE416 Vitara
1997 2.0 LWB SV620 Vitara
1999 2.5 LWB SQ625 Grand Vitara
1999 2.7 LWB SQ627 Grand Vitara XL7

I have weaves on the hunt, but if anyone else can jump in that would be amazing.

So far Googling has turned up an OEM Suzuki Sidekicks and Geo Trackers 1989 to 2000
Suzuki P/N: 09269-41001, TIMKEN P/N: 517009, AC-Delco P/N: FW176

Height 1 : 40 mm
Height 2 : 35 mm
Outer Diameter : 68 mm
Inner Diameter : 41 mm

BUT...

Did the bearing change when Vits went to 26 spline axles?
Changed again for ABS/unified hubs on GV/XL7? (Suzuki P/N: 43401-65D00???)

Timken catalogue (US models):

93 Sidekick
F - 517009
R - 511004

97 Sidekick
F - 517009
R - 511004

99 GV
F - 517009
R - 511024

02 XL7 (earliest available)
F - 513193 (Hub assembly)
R - 511030

Can anyone turn these into dimensions? Change in part numbers for XL7 isn't promising...

Got a reply from Greg at 4WD Products:

"The wheel bearing for the first three models is all the same being 41X68X40/35 (Suzuki OEM P/No. 09267-41001). I don't have the specific details on the XL7 wheel bearing as the wheel bearing is part of the hub (Suzuki OEM P/No. 43401-65D10).

Can't do the hub assembly sorry.

Edit: Actually looked at the figures, it looks like you are out of luck with this avenue. That width difference is going to have a huge difference on torsional ability.

Thanks ozzy,
Allied lists a single bearing kit for all 88-99 Vitara models without ABS:
Fr: 4037
Rr: 4051

GV 98-00
Fr: 4037
Rr: 4435
...and the same for the XL7 despite the unitised front hub...?

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

Thanks Zook_Fan,
So all the Vitaras, 1.6 and 2L, front and rear used the same bearing??? Part numbers just different seals in the kits?

Then for the GV a bigger ID at both ends, so thicker axles... but a significantly smaller OD on the front countered by a much greater width. Rear pretty much the same...

Then the XL7 gets a much wider rear bearing but otherwise much the same.

Can I ask where you got those numbers from? Have to sort out the incongruity between sources now.

For the record if I can compare to an early GV that will be OK, I found a set of 16" alloys from a 98 V6 that are the same offset as my XL7 rims.

...there's no easy way to run GV hubs on an SV is there?

PM weaves? I have him on facey... not sure if he's still in the bearing game?

Have done, he's on it. Been some help with part numbers but got to go digging for dimensions.

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

They were out of a giant Timken catalogue. Condition monitoring contractor brought it in yesterday but realised it was only imperial. Here is a link to a Timken metric/imperial catalogue: http://www.timken.com/en-us/products/Do ... _Guide.pdf

I'm only going by the part numbers you gave me, I didn't check your information to see if they were the same or not. Can't imagine the GV front hubs would be hard to install on the vit but I haven't done it so can't give guidance there.

gv hubs and spindles should fit right on a vit. but you would have to get the spindles too as they don't fit on vit ones.

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

Thanks guys...

ZF - from the link you posted:

Vit - 517009 - ID = 41, OD = 68, W = 35-40
- 511004 - ID = 35 OD = 80, W = 26

GV - 511024 No listing, but a Google gives the same dimensions, translated to Bore = 40mm OD = 80mm, W = 23mm

XL7 - 513193 - No listing
- 511030 - No listng, Google again agrees - Bore = 40mm OD = 74mm, W = 41mm

Tanshi - so GV spindles and hubs will bolt onto a Vit knuckle, giving me GV bearings... will I need GV CVs too, or is there a shim or something for that extra 1mm bore size?

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

So based on all of that the engineer is happy with the front end, but not so much the back.

Can anyone tell me how the thicker rear axles on the GV (40mm) compare to the SV (35mm)? Is there any chance they taper down to the same size and spline count at the diff end? Are they the same arrangement at the wheel end? Are they even the same length???

Brakes have also been passed, so it's actually tantalisingly close to happening now...

All 26 spline suzuki axles would be the same size at the spline to fit in the side gears

Try and find the rated axle load capacity of the gv sv and cj7 front. Might be able to go to full floater at last resort. I have a gv axles here if u need measurments.

I found 900kg front and 1060kg rear for a gv in the states.

If u use xl7 front hubs in a full floater u will be right.

Swb gv axle dimensions
Rhs bearing spacer to end of spline 656mm
Drum mating surface to spline 756

Luke you're all sorts of awesome.

Do you know if the stud pattern for the drums is the same as the SV? And the backing plate to housing bolts match the SV?

From the data above the SWB GV is all of 10mm wider than the SV in the rear... which would all be on account of the change from P25 to P10 offset... what are the chances these would be a straight swap???

U might be able to drop the entire gv housing under if the arm mounts and coils line up

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

Bearing OD apparently is the same.

I could probably make it Wednesday... but I won't have access to my car.

What are the chances of everything lining up? Will the disk kit bolt up?

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

If you could be bothered chucking one of the GV axles into the SV diff that would be awesome - that's the least painful potential solution that I can think of...

Otherwise thankyou so much!

Post subject:  Re: Vitara and GV wheel bearing dimensions

I only have a swb gv diff in pieces is your sv diff together .
The bearing has a spacer on the center side of it.Check with greg the sv one might be 6mm shorter. It makes sense for suzuki to use the same housing when they went to the new wide chassis
