hey guys, just wondering what speeds you get out of your sierras that are running a standard 1.3L engine with bigger tyres. and how you went about it. i have a SJ80 sierra with a 2 inch lift and standard engine and extractors. and stock tyres cheers

You can do 110/km/h with 31 on stock transfer gears, in 1.3L leafy - but it's super harsh on engine
Get some transfer gearing.

It depends on hills, headwinds and how heavy you run.

A better question, would be what's the biggest tyres you can reliably run on coily front diff before limited by the coily shittyness

The trolley tug used to have no problem at 100km/h on 35.5" swampers. It's all in the gearing.

How do i go about gearing it to get more speed out of it ?

You're asking the wrong question. The question is "I have xx sized tyres. How do I gear the car back to standard"
As you have a coil Sierra, you will need to swap to a leaf sierra transfer case. These have a 1.409 or 1.58 high range, which is about 7% and 12% reduction over your chain drive case. From that point you can swap to reduction gears to offset even larger tyres.

There are no alternative diff gears for your model. All reduction needs to be in the transfer case.

Steve.

When mine was still a 1.3L and running 215/75r15 tyres, extractors with 1.5" pipe and 2" lift I had no problem getting the needle off the speedo (about where 160km/hr would sit if it were on there). If your engine is tired that's a very likely cause for your current setup not getting you up to speed... no amount of gearing is going to help a worn engine =) lol

Well, I can't confirm that speed... as it was off the speedo and I was running larger tyres... but i got a speeding fine for 134km/hr in a 90 zone about 500m later (I was slowing down because there's often a camera in that area) lol

I've had my current setup at a confirmed 141km/hr (on the GPS) at 5200rpm. Not sure about everyone else's sierras but mines more stable / drives nicer at 110km/hr+ than it is at 100km/hr.

mine sits on 100 on 33's as long as its flat road and no headwind

80ish kph flat to the boards on 38's on the flat with no wind at all and enough room to wind the hampster up. Mine was geared fairly low though.

Sure will, with the bigger swaybar in it it handles really well flat out on the speed section now.
