Hi Guys, Hoping i can get some insight into what is happening with my vitara. Long story short, i ripped all wiring from an Escudo Single point injection system with all air con and electric windows and such to make my crap out carb a more reliable motor. I have hooked everything up and when i turn the keys on nothing, no lights on dash no power to the ignition system. I can turn lights on, electric windows work and the fans for the zircon works. Now i did not transfer the auto gearbox over as i prefer manual, but i do not think that should cause an issue. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated! |

Grab a meter and start checking ... Do you have power TO the ignition switch? Do you have power FROM the ignition switch? Do you have power TO the ECU? Do you have power at the EFI relay? Do you have the ECU grounded? The fact that you have no dash lights and no power suggests either a failed fuse or a loose wire. |

Oh - it would help if you had a wiring diagram, which is going to be a pain in the butt to track down for an Escudo, you might be able to use one from a Sidekick, but expect there to be some differences. |

Thanks for the info Foredoom, i had another look and it had an immobiliser underneath so i have removed that and i now have dash lights and all accessories are working. My issue is now when i go to start the car i just hear a click from a relay and the fuel pump motor working but no starter engaging. I am trying everything under the sun to get this going, but it is proving to be a lot harder than originally thought! If any one could let me know what the clicking sound could be that would be great? |

The wiring for the lock out would be my guess. I can recall the correct name for it atm, but means the car has to be in park tp start. On the plugs that go to the auto, there will be two thick wires. Guessing a red/black or black/red and a white/yellow or yellow/white, check the wiring diagram. I have one, but cant check atm. One will have voltage when you try to start. You can either bridge the two thick wires, or tap into the one with voltage and go directly to the startor motor. |

Neutral safety switch - should be a black/red from the ignition switch (or black/yellow - depending on which switch - original/escudo - you're using) to a black/yellow going to the starter. Or - get that meter out and start tracing - one of the circuits from the ignition switch will go hot when the key is turned to start, that should connect to the starter solenoid control terminal. |

HI Guys, Thanks for the replies i have done what both have suggested, well i think i did it correctly. And all that has happened is when i turn the keys to on the fuel pump starts and when i turn to start no cranking over. Is the Starter solenoid control terminal the solenoid on top of the starter where the positive lead runs to? Thank again for the feedback i am hoping get it sorted today so i can start putter back together and drive her |

Hi Guys, An update i have found the plug on the starter and i can now get it cranking over, but it is not wanting to start, i am unsure if the fuel is getting in the throttle body or not. I think i have flooded it at the moment so i am going to wait an hour or so and try and as when i tried starting it putting my foot on the gas it sounded like it wanted to start. fingers crossed i can get it going Thanks for all of your help so far |

Most (I believe all) Suzuki ECUs have an "unflood" mode which is activated when you crank the engine with the throttle wide open - for this to work in your case, you would have to have the "crank" signal wired to the ECU, which may or may not be so given your recent work on the starter wiring. |

Hi Foredom, An update where I'm at, car starts and idles down great. When i put it inderload or accelerate i am getting from what i have researched a spark knock happening, i am pretty sure i got the timing correct. I have read that it could be because the o2 senior on the exhaust manifold isn't connected. i tried to get the O2 send out but it is stuck in there, is there a way to bypass the sensor. or would it be with timing? |

Is there something you need to bridge for setting the timing? I may have a spfi wiring diag, ill have a look |

It's most likely the ignition timing - a weak mixture can cause it to ping, and the O2 sensor is responsible for fuelling, but a dead or missing O2 sensor will usually cause it to run rich. |

thanks guys, a wiring diagram would be great jdk81. Now i have to find how to set ignition timing as well, it would be great for the thing just to work but i suppose these things take time. Quick question could it be the actual spark plug it self as i went from a carb model to a SPI style? |

HI Guys, An update, still trying to get rid of this annoying ping or knock, it is now present in idle slightly, i have no idea what it could be, any suggestions? the guy i bought the Escudo off said something about timing and you take the rocker cover off to see the stroke pattern of the first cylinder, could i have that around the wrong way by any chance? I have noticed of the top cog we have the correct marking for timing and then on the opposite side someone has marked it with a white marker. I am so confused i think i may call a mechanic to fix this last issue as everything else is working really well |
