I am just replacing my noise timing chain on my 2.5 V6 GV I found the problem which was just a slack timing chain rattling on the guard. Have the kit to replace it but there is also an oil pump chain. To get to the oil pump means putting on a hoist removing rack and piano assembly and diff housing. With NO hoist (coming in a few months) this is a big problem for me to do. I know if I had the hoist I would go ahead and do it, but not having a hoist is this going to give me grief ? I mean there is no problems with it so I think just leave it alone and do the timing chains ???? Thoughts anyone....... |

I would just leave it - the oil pump chain runs partially submerged in the oil, so it's well lubricated & I haven't heard too many people complain about it. |

If you are doing the other chains, you will have the timing cover off & can adjust the oil pump chain guide - it doesn't have a tensioner as such. The oil pump chain is the shortest of the lot, but only a single row & like fordem said, is always running in oil (as long as there is correct oil level in the sump). There is some warning I believe about not removing the sprocket from the pump - don't know what goes wrong if you do & I'm not going to find out!. Unless the sprocket teeth look worn or there is not enough adjustment available with the guide to take up the slackness, leave it there. Rgs, Michael V. |

I believe it is simply a "press fit" - the only person I know that removed it, had to tack weld it back in place - the welds have held for several years, so I guess no harm done. |
