MY Suzuki Sierra has just stated revving up when I turn the head lights on it goes from 800rpm to 2500rpm I only just got the car and am inshore if it's a common problem with them? I flushed the carby but no luck now stuck with a noisy buzz box
First set your regular idle to about 900rpm (warm engine) - that's the screw that sits near the throttle arm and spring (on top on a 45 degree angle) - under that screw and facing horizontally is another screw - this is the mixture adjustment. Turn that back and forth until you find the point that the idle is highest, then tighten the idle screw again back to 900rpm
The idle-up with accessories misbehaving is a vacuum thingo on the carby. Turn off all accessories then disconnect the solenoid vacuum valve hoses and blow into them - you shouldnt be able to push any air through if the valve is shut (it should be). Now turn on the headlights and try again - you should be able to push air through if its functioning properly. If anything here isn't working you'll need to replace the solenoid or if you're lucky the hoses.
If it all works (sounds like it does) then you can now adjust the idle up screw - it's the bottom one pointing slightly downwards 90 degrees around the corner from the idle screws. Turn that till you drop the revs back down to around 950rpm with ALL accessories on full blast (including high beam).
