Hey fellas,

Im converting my F10a sierra over to G16b and wanted to clear up a little bit of mis-information on the net for all the correct parts needed for the conversion.

1.6L Parts Needed:
- Engine w/ loom and ecu
- Starter Motor
- Dash Instrumentation (VSS)
- EFI fuel tank
- Exhaust Manifold
- Air flow meter

1.3L Parts Needed:
- CLUTCH CABLE BRACKET
- ENGINE MOUNTS
- RADIATOR
- Flywheel
- AIRBOX
- CLUTCH
- PRESSURE PLATE

I have a full running F10a in it currently, what parts could i use from my current 1L to replace the parts that i would need to get from a 1.3L (e.g are 1L and 1.3L clutch the same?, are the radiators the same? and so on...)

Also stuck on Gearbox and Tcase, I cant use my current Gearbox as it wont adapt to the G series engine, so what is needed to adapt the 1.3L 5 speed? Some say just trans crossmember needs to be chopped out and reconfigured, others say tunnel mods :? ? 1L Tcase is apparently same a 1.3L but has lower gearing which is good (can anyone confirm this?)

nothing on the f10 is the same as the 1.3, clutch wont work. rad wont work,

gearbox: you have not included above the adapter plate / kit to make the g16 fit the g13 gearbox?
I think maruti were type 3 type 1 litres so there should be no tunnel mods to do as they had the wide tunnel
they also should be fine with the transfer as they had switch type cases

I have not included all the aftermarket parts i will need but i know i will only need the BenT Adaptor kit (w/ engine mounts and gearbox adapter), and other small bits and pieces (EFI fuel ines, filters)

Need modified 1.3 oil pick up and sump from the 1.3 also. Some weld the 1.3 chassis engine mounts instead of the Maruti 1ltr ones which are in a different location.
May need body lift to clear the taller engine.

U can use 2 rectangular flat plates with 4 holes drilled in each for the engine mounts if you dont have access to a welder, the 1.3 mounts just bolt to the flat plate bolted to the 1ltr chassis mounts.
Slide the engine and box in together, the 5spd will bolt straight up to the gearbox crossmember (only on maruti 1ltr) this helps locate the 1.3 engine mounts on the chassis if u go that way.
U have to space out the rad supports forward 15mm or so and bend the supports forward slightly to fit the 1.3 rad. It may also be necessary to redrill the mounting holes on one side.
Ive done this conversion 6-7 times now

And as mentioned u will need a 1.3 bonnet to clear engine and also maybe chop/bend a bonnet support slightly to clear throttlebody plenum on the vit 1.6 no such issue on the baleno 1.6

That is a good idea, however would you happen to have a pic so i can better understand the position of the mount? Would be good to know so i dont have to weld as my application to re weld new engine mounts on got knocked back.
And as for bonnet clearance i should be ok as im fitting a 1" Body lift and can go the 1.3 bonnet if need be.

No pics but i believe christover did the same on a conversion many years ago. Essentially a rectangular 10mm plate bolted to the chassis mount then the lower the 1.6 mount bolted in position on the engine onto the plate mark the holes on the plate and drill them to suit. I believe his passed roadworthy also but dont quote me

As a 1.3 conversion won't pass a roadworthy without engineering approval I don't think that was the case MrRocky.

Do you actually need to use 1.3 engine mounts? or will the 1.6 mounts work with the BenT kit

I'm not entirely sure how to answer that. In a Vitara, the engine mounts are completely different, so even though there is a rubber mount that's the same as a 1.3 (or 1.0) item, the chassis brackets are completely different. Vitara's have two brackets that bolt to the chassis for the rubber mounts to sit on, these are completely unlike anything on a 1.0 or 1.3.

It is possible to modify these bolted chassis brackets and weld them to the Sierra chassis, but it's not the easiest job. I did this with my car and didn't get the motor in exactly the right spot. This was complicated in my case because I made my own gearbox crossmember (for other reasons) so I didn't have the transmission mount to work off of.

My 1 litre mounts won't be the same as these yeah? So pretty much nothing off the 1 ltr will fit.
