Hi guys i recently bought a very cheap SV620 Vitara with "engine issues".... Turns out the issues were just a blown head gasket caused by a crook fan and collapsed timing tensioner in the drivers side head. Now how the bloody hell do i get that out???? Tensioner that is. I have the kit to replace the timing with.

I have just done the main chain tensioner & blade on the H25A version in my Grand Vitara - what a mission to get the front timing cover off, compared to a G series engine!.
It's only a little bit scary, but just gives you hours of 'entertainment' - 29 bolts to hold the cover on, I know it needs to be oil tight, but 29 bolts!, & that's after all the top of the motor has come off as well.
The R/H head has a short chain between the cams, with a hydraulic tensioner under, pushing up (cams out to get it out), the main chain has a hydraulic over ratchet tensioner low down (adjacent to the alternator, but all inside the timing cover) acting on a long blade / guide.
This tensioner is the cause of most chain issues with these motors - recommended to use a genuine tensioner. Chains & guides can be aftermarket if required (best if from Taiwan)
There is another chain on the L/H bank & another chain running the oil pump in the sump.
