Was talking to a fellow sierra owner yesturday and the topic of rims came up . He said you can turn standard rims around to give u a wider offset ... has anyone done this?

I think he's probably referring to a 'flipped' rim, but this is not as simple as just 'turning them around'.

Stock rims are a 15x5.5 -5 offset - turning it the other way would give you less width =)

The older 1L rims work on the older drum brakes, sierra' and Lj's

Yes, If you have NT or 1.0 15" rims (the white 8 spoke stye) you can literally bolt the rims on back to front. The stud holes are even tapered on both sides so the nuts seat properly. I don't believe it's possible with any other factory rims as they have a formed, not flat, centre.

I just tried this with my own car and a stock NT rim only just fouls on my 1.6 vented callipers, so with stock 1.3 brakes they will clear.

Track width is increased 30mm per side with the rims bolted on backwards. I measured this.

Is it a good idea though? maybe/maybe not. It IS possible though. By adding 60mm to the track the car is more stable, but you've added 60mm between the inside edges of the tyres, which means the car is more likely to fall into ruts.
