So, I've been using my stock 99 Jimny auto as a daily driver for the last couple of years. The Jim is all stock and it's 36 km each way to work with a decent hill at the half way point rising from sea level to 200m. The unit performs really well under load but occasionally, just as I ease off the gas it'll go through a series of cycles of no power/ power for about 3 secs each period for about 5 cycles and then its all good again. The check engine light doesn't display and I'd have difficulty attempting to demonstrate it as it doesn't happen every day. So far all I've done is change the plugs and the coil packs. Hasn't made a difference. Any thoughts or pointers I can follow up?

mine seems to do this once in a blue moon too, i've always been suspicious of the fuel pump although it feels as though it's more like the ignition turning on & off.

Exactly. I thought it might be the auto (mysterious things) but I am now more convinced its something in the ignition. Blinking nuisance that it wont do it on que. SOmetimes it'll do it twice a day and other times I can drive for a week without a problem. Thanks for coming back to me. Steve.
CAS, cam angle sensor. Well known issue on the g13bb. Mine did it the whole 7 years I owned it. Cut in and out quickly at highway revs. I found a 2 or 3 light pumps on the accelerator pedal cleared the issue until another day.
You could try replacing the CAS and replacing the cam seal inside the housing at the same time. I bet you have an oil leak there.

Thanks guys. That does give me a direction to head in. I really like the vehicle otherwise. It'd be nice to get it sorted. I loan it to my son when he comes over from Melbourne and that sort of issue worries him:) Steve.
