Hi all,

Just looking for a bit extra power on my 1.6L Vitara. Enjin is still stock standard, just thinking of an carburator upgrade ?
Any simple suggestions ?

Cheers

Your profile mentions a '98 Vit. All Vits in '98 were EFI - so no carburettor.

How much work do you want to do to get a 'bit' of 'power'? Done the mechanical basics?

Hi Reubs, was just a typo. Fixed it now.

I don't want to open the motor for now. Thought i could just put a DCD Weber on or something ? Just bought it, done nothing yet.
What would you recommend ?

Cheers

I fitted a 6in x 2.5in round air cleaner and ditched the factory air cleaner and i gained 2 seconds off my 0-60kmh time, i went from 9.5s to 7.5s
i am also booked in for extractors and a new exhaust next week and i changed the vacuum secondary pipe to constant vacuum and apart from a big flatspot on full throttle it goes so much better on the freeway

those times are with 31in m/t's fitted
0-100km went from 26s to 22s too
also if i do a dirt road or weekend 4x4 trip i'll put the factory aircleaner back on so i don't get water and mud in the carby.

i tried running different fuels and advancing the timing but didn't get any noticeable benefits, so standard timing and 91 octane is all i need

Unfinished- you're leaving a lot of torque on the table if you don't advance the timing for 98 octane.

i did advance it but it didn't go any better, i get the same performance on std timing and 91 octane, i'm sure once i get the extractors and with the new air cleaner it might have more of an effect

How much advance did you add, when I was playing earlier, 32/36 weber, hot ignition, and extractors, found much better go by upping initial timing to 12 degrees BTDC, I also went to 1.1mm gap plugs not the 0.8mm stockers.
