Hey guys wondering if anybody has had any experience with modifying the Suzuki v6's and know what, if any parts are interchangeable from other engines?
Eg, would cams from a KL or similar work, or is the only options billet or regrind? How did the monster h27a twin turbo pikes peak car put out 650+ kW at 8,500+ revs and hold together?

cheers Nick.

The pikes peak motor probably has more dollars in it than your house and needed to last about 10 minutes. That's how.

No, to the best of my knowledge the suzuki motor is basically unique. The H20 was loosely related to the mazda 1.8 litre V6 but shares no interchangeable components that I'm aware of.

Be aware that power adding via camshafts etc is generally counterproductive for an off road motor, where low end torque and a very broad power band (therefore the largest possible RPM spread between peak power and peak torque) are desirable. the factory is normally pretty good at that.

Steve, I have no doubt it does, i was just chasing specs, which aren't available, bugger.

Yeah I noticed no one got anywhere except for maybe a turbo, which i find pointless unless your engine is built to suit, hense my question.

Yeah i understand, more duration=more rpm. but the xl7's mainly a streeter. Having a hard time finding anything on the engine itself, stand bottom end must be pretty solid? I've seen of
turbo h25/h27's but with no aftermarket.
Sierra build will be my 4wd.
And the cruisers always there.

Nick.

There is a guy on here for a while who rallys a gv with a h27 in it. He had custom cams and after market ecu. He claimed good power gains. Didnt share much detail though

Tanshi. Thats exactly what im looking for. I might look into a stand alone ecu. Custom cams are out of my budget at the moment. Maybe design a new manifold to run a bigger throttle body or duals.

Did he post up any useable info?

Boost 9 times out if 10 the cheapest and most reliable way to gain power

Post subject:  Re: H27a Engine mods

Sell it and stick a clevo in a 60 series. .Haha

Yeah maybe. But thats a lot of money. Not just gunna wack a turbo on it without rebuulding the bottom end to withstand it. I just thought maybe a lumpy cam and extractors maybe address intake manifold and throttle body and find a decent tunable ecu?

nah he never had any info about it on here

Post subject:  Re: H27a Engine mods

He ran custom lumpy ass cams, lots of head work, hydraulic lifters converted to solid, custom high comp forged pistons, custom extractors and exhaust, ecu and tune. Probs some other things I can't think of too.

Personally there is no way I would run that set up over a basic turbo or supercharger. There is a lot of cash in parts and r&d for a small amount of gain. There is an easy 10-15k in the engined described for maybe 20-30kws. Did the guy ever post before and after results? You would gain far more injecting 5psi into the stock long block and I dare say it would be more reliable due to not having to rev the piss out of it.

Post subject:  Re: H27a Engine mods

Wait I think my calculations are wrong:
Custom cams 2k
Head work 3k
Solid lifter conversion 1k
Custom forged pistons 2k
Custom headers and exhaust 3k
Ecu and tune 2.5k
Machining 2k
Gaskets. Seals, timing 1k
Labour fr assemble 1-2k

So 20k is a more realistic figure. I also noticed no mention of rods so I assume he used stock rods, but revs are worse for rods than boost....:

Post subject:  Re: H27a Engine mods

Those are way over-inflated prices, in my experience. If you are spending 2k on cams and 3k on headwork (for a race/rally type offroader) you are either spending way too much or after something very specific and very exotic. $3k for custom headers and exhaust is also ridiculous, unless it was forced induction and required a puzzle of mandrel bends and flanges everywhere.

Your overall point is valid though: Boost is easiest and cheapest in most cases. Unless you are competing in a class that doesn't allow non-standard boosting in which case cracking open the engine is the only option.

You can get pauter rods for them.

You clearly like boost and thats fine. But stating those values which are clearly over inflated is just bull.

Having looked into the ins and outs and talking to various people about these motors ive been told that double the power without boost is not too far beyond what could be expected

Would it be even near possible to install the 3.2 GV engine into older models. How different are the gearboxes and transfers?

No not at all I have played with NA stuff before, I like it, but it's what it costs. Remember this is a dohc V6 with little to no support. It's no LS1 single cam.

Getting a custom grind for 4 cams and converting to solid lifters will cost 3k which is what I put in the budget. I have also played with headwork and I paid 3.5k for a 4cl dohc engine. 2 heads and 6 cyl 4 valve engine that gives any measurable gain will cost minimum 3k.

Also custom headers and exhaust....you have 2 heads so need the price of 2 flanges, 2-4 merge collectors, many good bends and hours of labour. You then need x pipes and a full exhaust to be tucked up nice and tight, you will also need the head work guy or exhaust builder to calculate the pipe sizing and lengths via pipe max or similar. It all adds up and costs, doesn't matter if it's boosted or not a well designed header that gives a noticeable increase costs money. An off the shelf Chinese copy of a well designed proven header is cheaper.

It will be 10-15k minimum and most likely blow out to 20k once it's all done. Sorry if I am sounding like a dick but custom stuff and real gains NA are not cheap. I do believe you could get close to double the stock power in NA form like you mentioned but it will be at a higher rpm and cost 20k. I would love to be proven wrong though.

Any manifolds ill make. I just thought it was a sweet engine and I didnt want to get rid of it for tge sake of an ohv v8, but theres no replacement for cubic displacement not even more boost.

Can make 4 or 500 hundred horse power for what 5 grand. Damn the technology. If they developed an aftermarket the engine whoild have been killer.

They put alloytecs in the later 3.2 zooks if I read right. There's far more off the shelf stuff for those, lots of similar technology, bigger displacement, quite durable.

Honestly though if I were you I'd just get something else and stick a certain alloy OHV v8 in it for the $$$ if you have no attachment to Suzuki as a brand.

Off the shelf extractors - $420
Stainless exhaust - $800
Cam grind/weld - $750
Mild Headwork - $200 a port/$1200
ECU & Tune - $2000
Total $5170

That would probably see you 140rwkw.

140rwkw is not double for the (late) h27a. But yes, double would be a bit of cash.
