I've built a new engine for the Zook. It's a 16V 1.6 bottom end with a 1.3 8V head on it.
From what I understand this combination produces less compression than a stock 1.3.
SO.....
I am running import TBI and want to know if anyone has any experience with boost in a TBI setup..
Blower of choice is an AMR300 and max boost will be 3-4psi...
Any ideas, opinions etc????

Pulled off another website - might be some interesting reading for you Jas.
I think if you are going to the effort of TBI and supercharging then the SC12 or AMR500 will at least have the capability and reliability for any power level that you might think would be a worthy target.
"Second-Hand Japanese Import Blowers
Subaru EN07
This supercharger is, in a word, tiny.
Fitted to upmarket versions of the Japanese-market Subaru Vivio/Pleo, this blower is lightweight and can be squeezed in very tight engine bays. It measures approximately 18.5cm in length (including the pulley) and the main body is around 15cm wide and 10.5cm tall. Although fitted by Subaru, the blower is manufactured by Aisin and is coded AMR300. This code suggests it displaces 300cc of induction air per revolution.
The 660cc supercharged Vivio engine is rated at the class regulation 47kW and has 84Nm of torque, so the AMR300 blower is suitable for only low power applications. This makes sense when you look at the small 45mm OD blower outlet pipe.
We’d be reluctant to push the AMR300 supercharger past 70kW - which means it’s good for only sub 1.0-litre engines.
Nissan MA09
This is another small capacity supercharger manufactured by Aisin for Nissan Motor Company. Coded AMR500 (a step up from the Subaru’s AMR300) this is another light and compact supercharger. This unit measures 17cm long, 18cm wide and 13cm tall (not including the mounts and bolt-on inlet and outlet pipes). Again, the outlet pipes measures just 45mm OD but its code suggests that it displaces 500cc per revolution.
The AMR500 blower is used on a very interesting engine. The Japanese-market Nissan March from the early ‘90s could be optioned with a MA09 1.0-litre 4-cylinder that boasts a supercharger and turbocharger! Peak power in factory form is 81kW, along with 130Nm of torque.
This supercharger can be used for slightly higher power applications than the Subaru’s AMR300. We suggest that about 110kW is its limit.
Toyota 4A-GZE
The Toyota4A-GZE supercharger is the most popular second-hand supercharger in Australia.
This unit is a considerable step up in weight and size over the previous Aisin superchargers. Coded SC12, the 4A-GZE blower is 27cm long, 21cm wide and 15cm tall (not including mounts or bolt-ons). The extra breathing potential of this supercharger can be seen in its larger outlet pipe, which measures 57mm OD. We’re led to believe that this supercharger displaces 1200cc per revolution and, in standard form, boosts to around 10 psi.
In its final years of production, the supercharged and air-to-air intercooled 1.6-litre 4A-GZE engine had a standard output of 125kW and 206Nm. In tuning circles, we have seen this blower in applications making over 150kW with good reliability. Note, however, boost pressure in excess of 14 psi can lead to heat-related supercharger failure.
Interestingly, the 4A-GZE blower comes with a small dipstick to check the internal oil level. It also has an electro-magnetic clutch mechanism (much like an air-con compressor clutch) that is used to engage and disengage drive to the supercharger."
If I was going down that road i'd be going for a bigger blower. Get some decnt power out of it. The lwb will be a weapon.

I'm running the same TBI Jas on a G16A 8 valve. I've also got an sc12 to put on. To be honest I'm worried about whether or not the stock injector will be up to the flow within a safe dutycycle. I've done plenty of looking around and I can't find a replacement injector that has a larger flow. I did check out some stats and found a swift TBI i think it was that had a fairly high kW rating. I wondered if the injector flowed more and was a direct replacement for ours. Food for thought anyway. I've given the idea away now though as I can't get my accell enrichments set right on my megasquirt with the standard TBI. I need to use injectors I know the exact specs on, mainly the opening time, which I can't find for the stock injector. As a result I'm going to try to modify my manifold to port injection with some known injectors.

Mine doesn't and I'm wondering if small boost will make it lean out.
Starting to sound like I might be better off putting a 16V head on the block and forgetting about TBI and blower.

Yeah I'm running a wideband O2 on mine. I use it for tuning on the megasquirt. You can get away with a narrowband though. Did the stock TBI ecu not use an 02 at all? Does it run off map alone? I was thinking of going a 16 valve head on mine but I don't want to have to put a body lift back in or drop the engine mounts.

you could run the fuel at a n slitly hight pressure to overcome the leaning out
ot maby an risging rait fuel pressure regulator of that can still work with TBI

I've attached a pic of the same TBI as mine below. Mine runs a stock regulator which is labeled FPR in the pic. Are you sure your's doesn't run one?
Injector's flow rates are measured at a specific pressure. By upping the pressure you get more fuel flow. Therefore you may be able to bypass the stock reg (if you have one that is) and put a higher pressure one in line. This should technically give you more fuel.
I think the worry here is that your running this on a fresh engine without an o2 sensor. I'd be scared to play around with a fresh engine and end up leaning it out.

the injector will open for a set amount of time time set my the timing system for the injector ( injector flow rates are messured at a pressure ie the injectores on my 2jzgte are 440cc @ X bar in pressure)
so incressing the presure will force more fuel for the same time the injector is open as the injector timing system will tell it to open for X amount of time that is in the programing .
and is it posable to put a presure regulator in the fuel line
eg stock injector is rated at 400CC @ 2.5bar in presure , incresing the presure to 3 bar will have an higher CC flow rate

unrelated but does the regulator get its reference from above the throttle body? I wouldnt think given the injector location that reference to manifold vacuum would be useful
which could also mean you could run a fixed pressure regulator to increase the pressure as well

When i had mine apart I don't think that reg had vac reference. I also dont think it would need a rising rate reg. Though maybe a set and forget adjustable one could be helpful with with a standalone o2 sensor (the one they sit in the exhaust when they tune) to get the right AFRs when its first set up.

Did you rebuild the block yourself? I'm thinking of doing the same so I can swap a fresh bottom end in. Do you mind if I ask how much it cost you to rebuild it (parts and machining)?

I was lucky enough to buy a 65,000km old 1.6 16V bottom end for $50.. It had no lip and was only 2 thou off being perfect bores so I honed it and fitted new STD rings, STD bearings and gaskets.. Cost about $300
Should probably spend another $150-$200 on a new oil pump before I fit it though.

3 or 4 psi isn't much at all, the stock set up should run it no problems. if you are worried i'd just be making sure your fuel psi is up 5 psi more than std or use a rising rate fuel reg.
if your looking for a bugger tbi go the set up of a ford 250 cross flow engine. it runs a 4.1 engine is the same bolt patten as a weber and they handle the boost well

I got mine from suzisport at underwood. It only included the throttlebody and inlet manifold though.

Falcon XF -EA TBI uses an O2 sensor doesn't it?
Wouldn't that would mean changing a lot more than just the throttle body?

yeah to use the EA stuff (which incedently was only a 3.2) you would need some kind of different ECU plugged into it
I am told they are different base pattern though, they wont fit on a traditional 32/36 adaptor plate
