Just curious on best tyre range and size for a 1lt sierra.

Currently got 215/75/15's - Trail Mark's (came with the ute)

Find them quite a nice tyre really.. Dont seem to wear very much and have a fairly aggressive pattern without being that noisy.

As she stands the most work she gets will be on road.. then sand, rocks, corrie roads maybe, Most likely not mud..

Id like the thoughts from a budget point of view through to the false economy point of view as well..

I've been told that 235's on a 1lt is about the biggest you should push that engine size?

Thoughts please?

It's got nothing to do with engine size and everything to do with gearing.

1.0 sierras have a tall first gear and a small clutch, so they really suck with big tyres messing with the gearing.

I ran my 1.0 with 34's using transfer gears with a 1.65:1 high range and it was OK in road.

I wouldn't exceed 215's unless you are planning on gears. I'd look at LJ80 diff gears (4.56:1) if you plan on 235's or 30's, and/or transfer case gears depending on how much off road capability you are chasing.

Thanks Steve. By having 215's explain why the transfer box is very noisy with power on and off?
I've been told that it needs to be serviced, but could it be down to pushing the tyres? Adding a 'MT' to the mix is also a bad idea then (road and offroad use)

In terms of a rig, really just chasing something that will be comfortable to get my to a few surf spots and some camping..(Sand/Hills/Rocky Services)
At the end of the day, with the 1lt in it and 4 gears, going long distance really isnt ideal in anycase..

my stock geared 1 litre used to do 140 with 4 gears and 31's, was faster than my 1.3 I reckon

haha - 140!! - Fark - How long did it take that for?

I'm curious, If you're set for a trip that would take a normal family car (v6) about 1.5hrs at around 100Kph

What average speed would you sit the zook in?
Want to do a run up a spot north of Perth, but dont want to flog the poor girl before she gets taken for a 4wd..

Been checking the GPS lately and the speedo is fairly out of wack.. ie - 70kph = about 64Kph
Seems to get worse as it gets faster?
Again tyres to blame I guess?

sierra speedo's are not that flash, mine always says 0kph no matter how
fast i am going.

No, noise is noise and will have nothing to do with the tyres.

Sounds like its time for a rebuild.

just wonderin, what's the biggest tyre size that'l fit on a stock WT... want some muddies but all of the ones on here seem to be 30-31" or bigger, would these fit?
