Hey guys my Vit already has a 2" lift by the previous owner (I'm unsure which brand) but I'd like some more height. What is the best way to gain a little more. I have no tools or the mechanical knowhow to do the work myself so I'm trying to keep costs down, would a body lift from the likes of Calmini be my next best route or have I other options that I'm unaware of? I've got Mickey thompson 31x10 50r15 on it at the moment and they catch sometimes, hardly ever with just normal driving. I tried to upload a few pics but it wouldn't let me as my pixels were too high! |

A body lift will help clear the tyres , spacing the bump stops will help as well, to be honest I'm not sure if coil spacers will do any thing. The suspension lift you currently have will not actually help clear your tyres when compressed. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=15518 This guy has a good reputation for body lifts. I should mention I have no personal experience with vits. |

Hi, I have a '92 Vitara SWB. I have 31" wheels with a 2"suspension lift and 2" body lift. Run like a dream, no rubbing. Hope it helps. Cheers |

Perhaps start by figuring out where the tyres catch and seeing if that can be massaged a little. There is a pinched seam that can often be flattened down. Or simply cutting back the rear (door) side of the front guard and the front (door) side of the rear guard. The front guard is much easier to do as it is a single skin. If not already done. |

More lift than you already have is a slippery slope of mods to make the last mod work - you'll start needing diff drops, driveshaft spacers, blah blah blah. Why do you want more lift? Just to clear the tyres? Find out exactly where they are scrubbing and wee if you can clear the bodywork. If you're running 31s it will certainly be the inside of each arch as mentioned above, plus probably on the chassis at the front on full lock (wind your steering stops out as needed) and the bodywork behind your headlights. If your suspension compresses far enough it might make contact at the top of the arch, in which case bump-stop extensions are your best bet. Bodylifts are a simple fix, but not easy. They require engineering, and have specific but variable requirements in terms of materials etc. They cause problems with your gear and transfer shifters, sometimes steering column. They are not easy to install without at least a reasonable amount of tools and knowledge, or a lot of motivation. They require follow-on tweaks to fuel filler, brake lines etc. And they raise the centre of gravity and feeling of instability quite considerably. If you insist, don't go near the Calmini kit. Talk to your engineer about what exactly you need, then buy from just_cruisin. |
