Post subject:  My Jimmy has arrived!

So I got the Jimmy from the freight company and I am in love with this little beast. It's everything I hoped for and more. It came outfitted with new silicone hoses, 30" Goodyear wranglers, pioneer head unit and speakers, new smittybuilt top, bull bar, and aftermarket rear bumper plus some other random things here and there. I know the diamond plating isn't for everyone but I think it screams 80s and in person it looks better. It wad really well done. It runs smooth, shifts great and it it's in amazing condition considering it's its 26yrs old. There is a little bit of rust in the bed and behind the drivers seat but it will e and easy repair. 4wd engages smoothly and no issues with the drivetrain.

So quick question, I've kept it under 55mph almost the whole time. But itsts did get itsts up to 60 once and a buzzer started beeping at me. Does anyone know what that is? I'd assume it is a warning buzzer of some sorts.

Here are some pics.

If that's a JDM vehicle, it was customary on vehicles of that vintage, to have a warning chime at around 100 km/h - newer vehicle no longer have it though.

Congrats! - That a sweet little car.

If you intend to keep the car for any length of time, I'd be removing that checkerplate. I know you probably aren't going to want to hear this, but I think it's been installed to cover rust or poor quality rust repairs.

Fortunately, all USDM panel parts are fundamentally the same, so (even basically the whole tub) so repairing rust properly isn't really going to be too hard.

The reason I say this is that the amount of coverage around the rear is far more than any commercially available checkerplate panelling I've seen, but critically, it runs right to the bottom edge of the wheel arch, whilst it doesn't at the front. My call is that this is to cover rust, as this area is prone.

Likewise, the windscreen frame is prone to rust in the area the checker plate has been applied and I can't see any other reason to install plate there.

I do like the idea of plating the front corners as this area is very vulnerable to damage.

Why anyone would cover the cabin air inlet is beyond me. It's probably because the drains became blocked and leaked water into the floor. I don't know what the climate is like where you live, but I'd rate a functional heater up there as a desirable item.

In any case, even if you put some of the plate back, I'd want to know what's under it. The car has pretty fresh paint and that plate looks pretty new too (much newer than the car) so it's unlikely it's a JDM accessory fitted years ago (it's also not really JDM style)

I can also see extended shackles with what look to be standard springs. This reduces caster in the front suspension and degrades handling and steering response. I also see small wheel spacers. As the tyres fitted will clear the guards without them, I assume they've been fitted for cosmetic reasons. I'd probably remove them or at least check them very carefully for condition.

Steve.

That checkerplate will be handy when you lay it on it's side and need to stand on the door after you climb out! =)

Every time I drive my car with doors on it I drop my car on its side and dent one, or otherwise regret running them. Lol.

Rust behind the paneling was an initial concern of mine before purchase. I dont believe it will have any considering how clean this car is. I'm not ruling it out though. I plan on pulling a couple panels to investigate that possibility. The cabin air inlet is vented so still functional.

I'm curious about the shackles and will investigate into the brand of them. Do you think OME medium rate springs would be good to run with them or would I better off going with a full OME kit?

I'm pulling the spacers today to see if they are good quality. They are definitely installed for cosmetic reasons.

Drove about 100 miles this past weekend. Car runs fantastic. Handling is a tad touchy on the hwy and pulls, usually to the left, when braking. I thoroughly love this little fella though.
