Is anyone running an auto locker in the rear of there gv/vit? How does it handle on the road? I'd love to get one but onroad driving with one is my only concern. Cheers |

Handles just fine, the only time you even notice them is at slow speeds going around corners. Main thing is changing your driving style to suit (ride the clutch a bit more around slower corners etc). If you don't they'll buck and bang and carry on a bit. Front ones are far more noticeable (obviously only when in 4WD/offroad). They add a significant return to centre steering effect and can make turning on higher traction surfaces an effort. Change ratios at the same time IMO, if you are going to the effort of putting lockers in you may as well do the ratios while you are at it. Lockers will let you approach things at a much slower pace, so lowers gears go hand in hand with em as you won't have to ride your clutch so much. |

Ok thanks heaps mate. I'm going to 4:8 gearing now as my front diff decided it would rather be in heaps of little pieces than one piece |

It may depend on where you are and how you are forced to drive - coasting through corners is not always an option - and if you have an appreciable number of "up slope" turns (not necessarily uphill) you're going to be hearing that bang and feeling that buck - if you're forced, as I am, because of the intersections & stop signs to turn with the power on so you can merge into the traffic stream, you're going to hate it. |

If you have an auto, the box will act as a shock absorber. Definatley doable with a manual, but driving style has to be modified to suit. I had one in the rear with a heavy duty clutch and managed fine until I sold the car. my missus hated it though and avoided driving the car. Was fantastic offroad Going back to a normal diff (well LSD in this case) I do prefer the smoothness and will go to an elocker this time. |

I drove my mates manual gv with a lockright in the rear, was the biggest pig to drive... I definitely prefer to drive around with my welded diff... |

Welded diffs are a pain in the backside, increased tire wear, chunking, scuffing, larger turning circles, squealing over painted lines in parking lots - but they are predictable - no twitching, no banging ... |

I would not use either welded or auto in a GV. In my opinion the axles aren't strong enough to last with a welded diff, and autos are piggy. Steve. |

GV Axles are definitely not strong enough to handle a rear Auto or welded diff. but currently there are no other off the shelf options for axles. |

Actually now you bring that up when I removed the locker from the rear the splines had twisted a little on one axle. |
