For the budget oriented... or otherwise poverty-spec upgrades, has anyone had reasonable success using the stock dampers with lifter springs?

Obviously it's not recommended, but how should I generally feel about running a 25 - 30mm lift on stock dampers?

Interested to hear from those who have done it, anyone who hasn't done it probably doesn't know.

It's no problem. There no such thing as a 2" lift shock anyway. It's just marketing claptrap.

My LJ81 had 2" springs and stock shocks, the shocks were maxed out at ride height. It was more like 3 or 4" lift than the quoted 2" though.

You'll be fine in a jimny with that lift, the shocks are more than long enough for that.

I've got to get that updated, it's not Jimny anymore, it's Grand Vitara SQ625 now.

Okay, another question, perhaps I'm pushing the boundaries of bodgery here, but what about running a 30mm spacers on the stock rear springs, and then running 25-35mm replacement springs on the front suspension? Am I likely to end upside down somewhere, or is this still on the okay side of 'I'm a complete cheap-skate"...

I replaced the stock dampers on my SQ625 with EFS shocks that were identical length to stock. EFS claimed they were to suit the 40mm lifted springs, you'll be fine with stock.

I spent a day with stock shocks and a 40mm lift in ny SE416 and had horrible ride as there was only 20mm of downtravel in the rear.
