Okay all

Have recently fitted bruce's anti static rings (30mm front and 45mm back) to the Vitara and also got new 15mm offset sunraisias along with 30 inch mud tyres. Unfortunately not all is well and good as the first trip out I cut the two rear tyres up with the guard edges (DOH!!    ). Once home I have taken to the guard edges rolling them up, but got thinking about the possibilities of lifting the car further without too many dramas. The front tyres also rub the mudflaps on full lock with minimal compression so they are gone for the moment too.

First option is body lift. The only options I have found is a 2 inch kit from suzisports and the numerous 3 inch box section jobs from the US. Does anybody know of any other local (Aus) options? I would only need to do 1 inch (25mm) at minimum, but can only find info on 2 or 3 inch options.

Second option is to replace my standard springs front and rear with lifted King springs and retain my anti static rings as well. Bit worried about this option as I have already had to fit camber bolts to the existing strut mounts as the camber was WAY out. I could only imagine that lifting it further would require replacement lower arms a'la calmini 8O 8O .

Any of the experts around here got any other options? I heard once that doing a 1 inch bodylift is a piece of cake. Is this true or is it some rumour floating around??? and if it is doable, has anybody got some specs on the block sizes and whether internal crush tubes are required etc.

Many thanks for the help.

Cheers

no expert but this is how I did mine (same rim offset, thats what the problem is BTW)

front I bashed the rear edge of the wheel arch back about 20mm to stop scrubbing there (easy enough to do)
rear I fitted a 35mm spacer to the bumpstop to stop any further uptravel, I did roll the guards but it didnt help any

apprently a 1 inch bodylift is easy but I dont trust the guy that sprukes that as being real accurate, legally you will need solid steel blocks I believe, but better to talk to DOT about that, Bruce makes poly blocks but best to talk to him about them

mine sits higher than king springs and 15 / 30mm spacers and still scrubs so more lift wont help you really, I have camber pins and run 1.3* negative camber so you will have plenty of adjustment still

im looking to eventually fit 31x10.5's under the vit in the near future.
To stop any rubbing im looking at the 3 in calmini suspension lift and either a 2 or 3 inch body lift with 15x7 sierra rims (offset more than the vit).
Oh, and a bit of DIY "modifying body with hammer"

also i need some reduced gears in the transfer as even with 29 inch tyres sometimes low range first is a bit too fast

mmm.... Expensive

Okay

Update on clearance search. Spoke to the guy at suzisports about their 2 inch body lift and he was steering me away from it, citeing that the Vitara body is not inherently strong and that the body lift puts it under too much stress. Basically he unsold me the $350 lift kit which I was about to order off him.

Leaves me with the same clearance issues. Not happy to extend the bumpstops as that would limit the amount of articulation I can get, but thanks for the reply royce.

Either I try and do a smaller body lift, therefore not jeapordising the structural integrity of the body but still enough to clear the 30's or do some backyard hammering and guard cutting (brother is a panel beater so I can get my woopses fixed hopefully).

If you're listening Bruce, can you do 25mm black (so as to hide from prying eyes) UHDPE with some steel crush tubes?

Cheers
