Ok, so i got bitten and now have another Vitara in the yard. Its a parts car, unfourtionatly not an auto, so thats another quest. However under its rotting carcass, due to too much beach driving, it has a 2 inch lift suspension, a lowrange auto locker in the back diff, a snorkel and a weber carb. I am thinking of grabbing the bits and giving the rest to the local Suzie wrecker for an auto. I did for a second contemplate a manual conversion, but from the reading i`ve done it sounds like a complete stuff around. Thoughts? |

depends if you are up for it, theres a bit of work involved, are you confident enough? I always say give it a go. Have a read of Gwagen's build his put an auto in piggles, i beleive Jdk81 has also. |

Putting an Auto in a manual is a lot easier than the other way round I think. |

Yeah, i thinkmill keep the auto, well replace the broken one at least. Am i right in thinking that the diff geraings in the manual is preferred, and i should change both centers? would save me getting the rear locker pulled out of the spares car and fitted to my center. |

The SWB manual runs 5.12 diffs, SWB auto is either 4.6 or 4.8 (can't remember which). I've done the swap from auto to manual, wasn't overly hard, just time consuming. |

To throw in some confusion... my previous swb jlx auto was running 5.1 ratios and i dont think it was due to the ratios being changed. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk |

not sure if its worth the hassle of changing both out. The rear auto locker is my main priority. Anyways, after pulling some bits off and doing my best to keep dirty, it turns out the previous owner, at some stage, decided a snorkle was enough of an air filtration system and removed the air cleaner. So i pulled the Weber off and found red dirt and mud in the bottom of the inlet manifold. Im thinkin the motor is more than halfway stuffed. But how would the Weber fair out of it? Gave it a carby clean and a bit of a clean up and it didnt look toooo shabby. Kit it and throw it on? |
