Hi everyone,

I just took an 07 Jimny for a test drive and when going from 4wd to 2wd there was a very loud clunking sound from the front.
Going from 2wd to 4wd was all fine but going the other way not so good, took me by surprise !
Changed from 2wd to 4wd while stopped, went for drive, pulled over, changed back to 2wd, then started moving and clunk!

Is this normal? I am pretty keen on making an offer as the rest of the Jimny was fine but just wanted to make sure I was not buying a lemon first.

Thanks, Scott

I assume you were only testing the 4WD system on a gravel/dirt road and not on tarmac? Did you carry out any turns whilst checking the 4WD system?

They normally go "clink-clink" as the hubs lock or unlock. I've got a manual shift model but I can't recall the VVT one making any other noises. It could go clunk if you had the driveline wound up?
