i have a 92 sierra and am looking at making it a bit faster cause we all no there slow as hell. any cheap and easy mods i can do 2 give the old grl a bit of a boost. iv done new plugs and leads and minor servise, she ran a bit smoother but no boost in power. thanks jayme. |

1.6 Vitara motor is easy enough and is cheaper than trying to get the same power out of a 1.3. Sierra's aren't meant to go fast so don't get carried away. |

x2 on the 1.6!! If you really want to persist with the 1.3 maybe try a carby overhaul and get a larger jet fitted to the secondary throat. Extractors and exhaust won't really give any noticeable gain but will help overall. |

seriously though, i wouldn't mind trying a bit of gas. i recon it would do the trick on the bottomless sand that we have. even 1.6 sierras have trouble reving out in 1st low. 
and ball supplies the local hospital with gas

carby rebuild and rejet extractors and exhuast decent air filter snorkel pull the engine fan off and put thermo on mild cam seems to wake em up a bit each of those should be good for a bit and not cost a lot |

Should go well, but just bear in mind you can't turn a goat into a racehorse |

3.9 diff centres and 1 litre transfer make sure the motor is running sweet do all that and if your still not happy do the 1.6mpfi conversion |

I have had good results from a 1300 by fitting a 1600 head, manifold and carbie, extractors, free flow exhaust, modified sierra air box, non restrictive air cleaner and a "performance camshaft". The cam was an over the counter performance grind from Crow Cams. The head was cleaned up and shaved to boost compression a little. The 1600 head has bigger ports, larger valves, less restrictive manifold and larger carbie. Contrary to common belief the combustion chamber is the same size as a 1300 head so there is no loss of compression. The engine revved hard ran cool and was strong and reliable it's ability to hold hiway speed was greatly improved. Don't expect it to perform like a 1600 upgrade but it does give a significant improvement. I know someone is going to ask why not just fit a 1600 - Answer So that he could race the vehicle in standard petrol class we had to retain standard engine capacity, could not add forced induction or change basic configeration i.e. we could not go twin cam, however headwork, cam shaft, carbie, exhaust, ignition system was open to improvement. Also he was a "P" platers so he could not have an engine upgrade that required Qld transport approval. |

Yes you could but I don't know why you would, if you were going through the process of fuel injection you would fit a complete injected 1600. The 1600 head on the 1300 was for a specific reason, if we didn't have those guidelines we would have just gone injected 1600 from the start. |

yeah well if have the last guideline to follow by aswell and it sounded like a good thing. You could run the lumpy cam and the 1.6 EFI head and the 1.3 bottom head until I got an open licence then it is a pretty simple swap to a 1.6 bottom end. |

Mate I would just keep it simple until you are ready to do a full conversion, too much money and backtracking involed otherwise. I know you are a young bloke, I can't remember now if you have just finished high school or if that was someone else, anyway do the things that Royce said in his post and find yourself a 1 ltre transfer case and you will have a lot of fun at minimal cost till you are off your "P" licence. |
