Post subject:  G16b bad fuel economy

I hav a lwb vit with about 200ks on the clock. I dont e pe t brand new performance, but was expecting better than what i am getting. Certainly better than my dads late 90s v6 gn
Mileage new is 7 to 10l , 100l for the late 1.6

I get 11.? To 12.8 l/100.

This is after an auto filter change, 4 tanks of fuel cleaner and a new air filter.

My trips are canberra to batlow which is hilly, but still would expect better in standard trim?

The better milage was taking the back roads over the brindabellas so slow for a lot of it.

Thanks in advance for any ideas. Engine seems to hav been looked after unlike my recent swb.

EDIT: Ignore me, I just realised you are talking about a completely different vehicle in a LWB.

Looking at your build thread it says that you are on 31s with a body lift and a fair amount of stuff that is hardly aerodynamic
I'd suggest that 11L/100km is about right for that setup if you ask me.

Yep it sucks but seems about right. It's the same in my g16b Jimny with 2" lift 225/75 tyres as well as a freshly rebuilt engine in my old Vitara.
Some may say having an aftermarket exhaust may help a little but because the other side effect is moar powah, you'd use it and will be back to square 1.

my g16b jimny on 215s, 2" lift & bull bar is sitting around 12.2/100, highway or town. was much better when first installed but it's settled there.

Our SWB Vitara G16B on 31s with standard high range gearing (5.125 diffs) gets about 13l/100km. Has free flow exhaust and K&N filter too. Expecting this to improve having replaced the rusty nail that calls itself an AFM sensor (or is it a MAF?) and the O2 sensor in the exhaust.

The thing with a grill and wire through it is an afm. I have a spare of those from trying to fix the last car.

I guess it could be running rich.

I would expec that kind of mileage you mention after i move to big tyres amd not before.
