Want to swap my 1.6ltr EFI motor from my 94 Vitara, into my 92 carby version vitara. How hard is it to do? |

I have recently done this swap. The big part is swapping over the wiring loom and mounting the computer etc. You will find that the mounts for the computer are different. Also, when I tried to swap out the fuel tank for a tank with in built pump I found the tanks to be different in size, although this could have been because the donor tank was from a long wheel base and it was to go into a shorty. It can be done but there are usually little things that catch you out. I have kept plugging away and are nearly there. I did a body swap as well (roll over) which added to the job. |

I did a similar swap a few years ago, except mine was a Baleno G16 (not a Vitara one). I use a right-angle piece from a Vitara and adapted the Baleno module into it (I might have use the original distributor from the carby engine?) You'll want to get the cluster from the injected vitara as well, as it has the VSS output for the ECU (and the CEL input). I left the fuel tanks alone, and mounted an external (VL commodore) fuel pump and the necessary wiring. It did have fuel surge though with less than 1/4 tank... If you can easily get a tank from the injected SWB, that would be ideal. |
