Hi all, I bought a Sierra for my Girl as we live right on the beach and It's accessible for her. Just a quick question, the clutch is wearing a bit thin and running out of adjustment, It's fitted with a G16a and I was curious about which clutch and plate to fit? Any clues would be greatly accepted, Happy new year and cheers! |

Where are you located? I've got a clutch and pressure plate that's a bit rusty but plenty of meat on the clutch you can have, its off a g 16a and I'm at Forest Lake |

If you are still using the 1.3 gearbox use a 1.3 clutch. |

Heavy Duty Exedy - but replace your clutch cable at the same time and make sure it's adjusted correctly. |

Stock 1.3 clutch works fine Dont change it till it starts slipping |

Thanks, yes it's still running 1.3 box and it's adjusted up that much that you can feel mechanical stress on pressure plate fingers in the last 10% of pedal! |

You can't adjust the clutch "up" - nothing you can do can compensate for wear or apply the clutch harder. What you're likely feeling with the clutch fully depressed is that you're bottoming the clutch out. This isn't good for anything. Cable, firewall, fork, pivot are all excessively loaded in this case. One the clutch is disengaged, it's disengaged. More disengagement isn't an advantage once the pressure plate isn't touching the flywheel. The only adjustment specification is for free play in the pedal when the clutch is engaged. Any tension on the cable with the clutch engaged might mean the clutch isn't fully engaging. If you've adjusted the cable up very tight, this could be a real issue. I'll just reiterate, you can't adjust the clutch to compensate for wear. Readjust the clutch so there is 20-30mm of freeplay in the pedal before the clutch fork moves. (this is from the FSM) Steve. |

Thanks for the reply, I don't need a new clutch so I will get a new mechanic, In this case I think I will opt for a manual and do the thing myself, Thanks for info. |

Its a common mistake. It used to happen all the time on trips before we had gearing. People would slip the clutch until it glazed, then get under the car and "adjust it up" - what they were actually doing was making the problem worse by slightly disengaging it. We live and learn. |

Thanks, But seriously, I have just got this Sierra for my daughter and paid to have a roadworthy done and (any adjustments that needed doing, for her safety) After your reply,I went and got a Hayne's manual for roughly this model (minus G16a engine) and with it and your info have sorted the clutch thing out now it's as good as new, and I have a reference book now, first thing in the morning I am getting the money back that I paid for the so called "service rendered". Now when she goes " touring" she will be able to "adjust it down" herself ( the right way) Again thanks for help, it's greatly appreciated, cheers. |

Off topic, but I think you should be aware of it - the Haynes manual is pretty much trash - you can find downloadable copies of the factory service manual on line - try Ack's FAQ. |

Yep. Haynes and Gregory's manuals are terrible. Generally more confusing than working it out yourself. Get hold of the FSM. |
