As the name suggests I'm looking for some ideas on rollover protection when 4wding. It will be for a full bodied lwb sierra, I'm thinking of having tube run up the A pillar from front scrub rails, along to the B pillar and then down tot either sliders or to the rear scrub rails to something along those lines. I quite like the look of Phillips design: http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/ ... Gwagon's flop cage is cool on hedgepig. But you would want to be handy with a welder and willing to respray your car.

And depending on state how illegal and unroad worthy you want your car, which you may or may not care about.

Protection for occupants - or protection for panels? Protection for panels... this cage has been flopped/lidded/backflipped on multiple occasions over the last few years. Biggest problem on the roll pictured was the car sat for a bit so lost about 3L of oil through the air box and needed a wipedown.

Here's my flop cage. It's made from nb pipe so none of it will ever be cams spec or anything but it's fine for a low speed flop. It's already saved the targa bar and windscreen frame once.

with all due respect to the owner do not copy the red one, far too much toob and very unstable because of it.
the others are only really roof sliders strong enough to sliding on trees. nothing wrong with that but wont save you in a roll.
put a 4 point roll bar in side the car and run with roof sliders is my suggestion

That's beautiful Jono! the type of thing I'm looking for, it would save the windscreen, B pillar and the top of the doors etc. Right along the lines of wht I'm looking at doing! Thanks Reubs but that's a bit too much for me, don't want it to be too obvious! I will have front and rear scrub rails so that will protect a lot of the bottom of it in a flop off road. Yeah what I'm thinking Darren is to have the style Jono has at the front that will join into a 4 point roll bar behind the B pillar. that or have a bar running down to the sliders/scrub rails but I don't want it to be too obvious.
One question Jono, how have you attached it on the other side, I assume it has a backing plate of a similar size/shape, the one issue I have with this is that I think the cowl, at least on the sides is double skinned, did you cut one skin off to get in there? Also how much does it weigh all up? A few more pics of how it attaches and it overall would be Great! looks very neat! Thanks, Angus

Its possible to reach up under the cowl to bolt it all in. Passenger side is easy, and the instrument cluster comes out easily to so the drivers side. There's no cavity behind that section so no need to cut for access.
I haven't got a full doubling plates on the back side of the bolts, just large washers made from holes are inners. It's not 100% ideal but I must stress the intended purpose is for a light low speed flop/slider.
The main hoop at the back it 1.75" CDW tube, if I get round to putting rear stays on it then it's a decent 4 point cage. The whole lots probably about 20kgs or so tops. It's pretty straightforward to get it on the car by myself.

Yeah nice, I really like it, yeah I think if I were to do it I'd add the backing plates as well just to give it a bit more rigidity. Yeah all I want it for is low speed flops off road, did it flex at all when you fell on it? one of my main worries is weight so good to hear it doesn't weight too much! I assume the rear hoops are 32NB and the connecting tube is 25nb?

It hasn't moved at all from being flopped on. The front section around the windscreen is 32nb The rear hoop is 1.75" CDW Connecting tube is 25nb.
