After what seemed to be an endless shit fight to a) source a unit b) fit it with a G16B, PS and winch I have finally got a functional A/C system in the Sierra. Have been doing some temperature testing on it and am unsure what to expect from it. So far the best center air vent temp I've measured (using a multimeter with a thermocouple inserted a few inches into the vent) with the blower fan flat out and recirc air is 6C with an ambient temp of 25C, therefore giving me a deltaT of 19C.
Anyone else measured their temps? As a reference it would also be good to know what the Jimny and Vit systems are like

I can't help you with Sierra specific information, but, I've been fiddling with the a/c on my vehicles - with the blower on minimum I'm getting around 4~5C recirculate discharge with an ambient of 30C, on three different vehicles, one of which is an unmolested 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer (my "reference" vehicle), other two (a Pajero iO and a Grand Vitara) had both been recently regassed.

Car moving or stationary?
When the baleno is moving the air con works much much better, it kinda sucks when stationary.
More airflow over the condenser, and alt makes more power. When I find where I stored my thermocouple I'll test it.

I pulled my dash out and heater/vent system apart, and cleaned it all. Primarily to stop water leaks and put mesh in to stop leaves and stuff getting into the plenum. I did put new seals on everything, and now getting ready to do the air con install in my tintop.
It's moves much more air now.

The test I conducted was at night traveling down the highway @ 100 kph for quite a while. I will do a maximum heat load temperature test (car parked in the full sun, all doors open, recirc and blower fan on max) on the weekend and see what I can get. I doubt I will achieve a deltaT of even 10C... Similar to your baleno jdk, my center vent temps increase quite rapidly when stationary which tends to indicate inadequate condenser cooling. I will try misting it with water and see if the temps drop.
In my system I have a factory Sierra evaporator (cleaned and in VGC), new factory Sierra Denso condenser with an 8" thermo fan, new receiver/dryer and a new Vitara Denso 10p08E compressor. So basically the whole system is band new (including the hoses) bar the evaporator. I have rid the system of the factory AC amplifier and use an AC thermatic switch (with its capillary tube inserted deep into the evaporator) in series with a trinary pressure switch on dryer and the blower fan switch to active the compressor/thermo fan relay.

When I had the coily AC serviced and regassed, we got 7° out of the vents with it on recirc. Factory AC aswell.

HI Mate,

6 deg is great, and where mine sits. controlled by resistance style thermo switch telling when to turn on and off the compressor, to ensures that you evaporator does not freeze up.

Since you have rewired your self the only thing that stands out to me is that you are running a 8" Thermo. the standard vitara 1 is about 12-14" metal thermo with a large angle of attack on the blades....

I would suggest that the thermo is your issue.

I only get 6 deg in mine (freshly regs-ed), either 100km/h or parked. only difference it that the compressor runs more constantly to keep 6 deg.

I agree that the thermo is undersized thus the increase in vent temps when stationary so I did a maximum heat load temperature test and had the hose running water over the condenser core. With an ambient temp of 30C, all doors open and the blower fan on full I only got around 19.5C out of the vents dropping to 17C whilst water cooling the condenser core. Very little change leading me to think I have other issues (over/under charged, tx valve issue). Also without the water cooling it will eventually trip the pressure switch..

I cant measure it because it has stopped working but yes, when it worked it would keep up on hot days.

Managed to test out a factory SJ80 aircon system thanks to greenzook89. For reference a stock sierra A/C system is capable of producing center vent temps of below 10C while stationary with the windows open, blower fan on max and an engine speed of ~1500rpm. This was measured at night with an ambient temp of 28C and ~60% humidity.

Looks like I have got a bug to squish in my system....

So a bit of an update...
Went wrecker scrounging and ended up grabbing a factory Denso 12" pusher condenser fan off a 99-2000 model Toyota Corolla. It is much larger than the piddly little 8" fan I had on it and wayyyyy quieter. Pushes a heap more air and covers a majority of the condenser now.
First test at night with an ambient of ~27C I was able to get around 4C out of the vents on max blower fan after a while of driving around at 60kph (~1C with the fan on low). Seemed very promising.
Tried it out again today with an ambient of 32C and was quite disappointed again... Will eventually get to 12C after a lot of driving around with max blower fan. Temp still fairly rapidly increases toward 20C when stopped at the light or roadworks for extended periods of time. Eventually it will trip the high pressure safety switch and cut the ac completely. This seems to happen when the condenser outlet pipe reaches ~66C. The liquid line still seems to be getting too hot ie the condenser seems to be superheated...
Looks like ill be seeing another air con specialist next week...

No good Dan, I didnt measure mine whilst moving but drove up to Kingaroy on the weekend just passed and I needed to turn the AC off at times as it was getting a touch cold for the Mrs.

If you need the details of the guy that serviced my AC let me know.
