It's something I should've done with my old Vitara, and is something I should do on my GV. These two mods seem to go hand in hand but I don't plan on running larger tyres just yet. Anyways, The question is, Do you have to do the Hagen widening / spring relocation mod to do the CV Stubby conversion? I would imagine no, but thought I'd double check before I start pulling things apart. No, you don't need to do the mod to run a stubby shaft, it's for the hilux cv's. |

Thanks Steve, much appreciated. Just one other thing, In all the stubby conversion threads I find they seem to use an old rear axle, cut it down and weld it. Surely the same can be achieved with an old passenger side CV, after all it is just the flange that's needed. Would there be any issues by doing it this way?

Stubby shaft doesnt work on a GV very well as the drivers diff bracket is in the way. Gotta do alot of work to make it fit. |

Mine is a front inner axle and a cv bucket cut and welded (by a driveshaft company)

^^ Any chance you have an overall measurement of the finished item? Would be nice to know how far the cv bucket was cut down. |

As far as they could cut, leaving enough room for the metal dust sleeve was what I asked for. It turned out slightly tight, so I spaced the diff over with washers about 1mm. That was perfect. Later I added caster/or correction bushes, which gave it another 1mm of clearance. |

Shame no one does these as a kit, I'm already too busy with an aw4/efi conversion on the wife's car but this would be a handy conversion |

Unlike bash plates etc, I'm sure this mod is a do at your own risk sort of thing, so it would be unlikely that a company would look at making up kits for something not many people would do in the first place. My welding is average at best so I'm just going to precut them and dropped the piece's off to a driveshaft or engineering company they can TIG weld it. |
