Usually wheel balance is the reason.

If it's very heavy it's from loose kingpins and worn knuckle seals. The trigger could be any number of things but the root cause is always the same.

Mud packed into the wheels gives mine the wobbles after wheeling...

It helps if you tell us which vehicle it is - or should we just assume it's the Vitara estate in your profile?

Given the fact that it shows up at a particular speed, out of balance wheels is the most likely cause, but it would not hurt to go over the entire steering linkage and check the joints for looseness, that by the way includes the ball joints.

Oh, if it's a Vitara its going to be due to an out of round or balance rim or tyre.
