Post subject:  Strange noise/vibration after 3" lift grand vitara

Hello,

I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2001 4x4. I installed a 3" lift kit from 4xfourart this February and since the first day, I'm having a strange noise when driving on the highway. When I drive more than 100km/h, as soon as I let the gas pedal go, without touching the brake, there is a loud vibration/noise coming from the front driver's side (LHD). It stops as soon as I press the gas pedal (I can actually "play" with the noise by pressing the gas pedal) or when the vehicle gets to less than 100km/h.

I have some ideas but not sure if it's possible:

-When installing the kit, the clip inside the diff of the short CV got broken/lost in the diff and I simply replaced it. Maybe it damaged the spider gears.
-Worn out u-joint on the front driveshaft. I still have the pressure actuated 4x4 clutch and no manual locking hubs so the CV joint are always in motion. Would be strange since I guess that the front propeller shaft doesn't move when not in 4x4.
-Worn CV joint on the driver's side.
-Worn wheel bearing.

In 4x4 at low speed, I have a loud vibration when moving, however it's continuous and depends on engine load, when there is no load it's a small vibration and increase when accelerating. This one I'm pretty sure it's the u-joint since it's coming from the middle.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem after lifting a grand vitara with differential drop brackets or if anyone has an idea what is causing this.

Thanks!

did you fit diff drop brackets when you fitted the 3in lift?

My guess is its vibration from the angle of the CV's.

Any lift over 40mm needs diff drop brackets and you really should fit Free Wheeling Hubs.

Yeah I installed diff drop brackets, I had some trouble with them since I didn't loosen up the mounting bracket to the crossmember. What I find strange is that it runs smoothly from 0-100 and at 100 and over it gets noisy only when letting go the gas pedal.

#1. Does 4xfourart have an Australian distributor, or did you have to order it from Turkey?:

#2. In regard to 4xfourart, I noticed that the home page doesn't list as many vehicles as the main product page:

When doing a big lift, it changes angles of driveline components.
If re using old unis/cv's , they can "worn in" to original position.
So driveline is one possibility

Noises can echo and transfer through the car in strange ways, so you may be misjudging location.

I see, then I think I will have to do some trial and error to pinpoint the location of the noise and then see if it's fixable.

You don't think having a loose circlip inside the diff centre might be contributing?

I think I'd want to rule that out before I went any further.

Thanks for the input, as soon as I have time I will look both a the diff and the driveline. Them finals takes all my time. I have a spare steel diff soon reassembled to put in if I ruined the aluminium one. If I have enough money I will buy some locking hubs.

I'd check the rear pinion angle too if the kit you got didn't come with rear arms.

Hi mate I know it doesn't help much but I have the same kit and in my experience it seems to be very good. Everything is aligned very well and after nearly 2 years of daily driving and off roading I'm yet to have a single issue. The car drives like factory except for a firmer ride which I like. My money would be on something being loose or potentially either a CV or your main drive shaft - check if the spline isn't out too much as you may need a spacer.

I was wondering, do I need to drain the transfer case oil to remove the rear propeller shaft? In the service manual it only states that the oil needs to be removed for the front. I'm planning on changing all 4 u joints, starting with the rear. While under I will also look if I need a spacer.

Front tailshaft slides in low down. If removed oil falls out. I found this out the embarrassing way. Rear shaft slides in above the full oil level
