I know your switched on but I always start with the same process.

New fuel, old fuel causes all sorts of issues.
Carby cleaner down the throat.
Drain the bowl and clean the jets.
Fuel filter.

Have these been done?

And after that, check fuel pickup, lines and replace fuel pump.

Both my sierras had rough idles, caused by two of the above, one the fuel lines were crudded up and the other was as simple as changing the filter.

This may also help. Power to the idle solenoid and there's a filter screen somewhere allusive

Of you've got time on your side, drop the whole carb in a jar of petrol.. Come back in a few weeks time and get into it

Hmmmmm!!! No idea!! Take it as a win :)

Fuel boiling or getting too hot??? Only a wild guess.. Probably disregard that idea

Can't tell you through any actual knowledge sadly :D

Can only think of that or the valves aren't sealing 100% when it gets hot.. But then I'd expect it to run rubbish under load not just idle.. Speculation.. Sorry Mr Rocky, can't be more insightful here
