Hey y'all. So I've just had 5.12 Vitara centres rebuilt and fitted into my 2003 GV along with a Lockright 1512 in the rear. On test drive my mechanic said it wouldn't unlock and was dragging a wheel. When he was installing initially he had to remove the washers from one side gear apparently because it was too tight a fit. Any ideas? Do the washers from both sides need to go? Or do the GV side gears need to be used (he said he thinks the GV side gears are slightly narrower)?
Also note this Lockright worked perfectly in my GV rear diff previously and was installed by the same mechanic.
I think the easy solution would have been to bolt the 5.12 crown wheel onto the GV center with the orginal lockright installation untouched. If the crown wheel of the 5.12 had 10 bolts (not 12 like the GV and later 1.6 vits) then my bet is that Vit center is probably a different casting with narrower internals.

I have the later 12 bolt ring gear but even though the bolt pattern is the same the crown wheel doesn't fit snugly onto the GV diff case. On the rear you have to use the whole Vit diff centre as Vit and GV 12 bolt rears are slightly different. Also AFAIK the 1512 was designed for Vit 12 bolt rear and fitting it in a GV is an unspecified application.
Vit 10 bolt rear is Lockright 1510 which has a smaller diameter AFAIK.
The Vit ring gear can only be swapped onto the GV front air actuated diff centre.
