Does anybody know if 98-05 grand vitara auto/manual transfer cases are interchangeable and if they are the same ratio? I know that auto t-cases for the m series jimnys are a lower ratio to the manual so wondering if the grand vitaras are the same? Cheers |

Transfer cases are the same ratio and no they are not interchangeable between auto and manual. |

I thought auto and manual had different input splines? |

Yeah they do. The manual input is larger in diameter and a lot longer than the auto. |

It's my understanding that the differences exist only on the V6 transmission/transfer cases - I've been led to believe that on the 2.0 & 1.6 engined Grand Vitaras the transfer case is the same on both manual & automatics. |

I'm pretty sure the 2.0 and 1.6 splines are the same, I can check later, I have a couple of old manual 1.6 Tcases and one out of an auto 2.0 |

That is correct as well. It is the manual v6 transfer that is unique, the auto is the same as the older models. |
