Hi all. I'm heading bush for a while fossicking and need a go anywhere vehicle. Ive prepared a list of my requirements, so hopefully the forum can offer sound advice. Before I list everything, I will say Ive had 16 4wd's in my life, so i no what I need when it comes to off roading, I just don't know anything about Suzuki capabilities. I will be travelling 4-5hrs each way from home. I will be staying away for 3-4 nights a week. I'm used to T/D power. Will I need counselling to accept the lack of power? I will need enough storage in and on top for detector, pick, shovel, 40ltr Engel, swag, camping gear and so on. I'm 183 tall 110kgs. Need to run twin batteries setup. Need a soft footprint. So there you have it. Is it the Jimny or the GV? Thank you for reading |

Id say due to weight and storage needed your choice will be a gv Heaps of power, comfortable but not the most capable of the softroaders. The jimny is severely lacking in the power stakes and at 110kg myself id suggest trying to sit in one of those jimny front seats with the window up before you even consider the jim |

When you say heading bush - are you talking about driving just general dirt roads and the like? Or are you going to be up against boggy sand, mud holes and rocky outcrops? If it's the latter, maybe something like a hilux would be better suited to carry the gear and still be tough enough and have low range etc. Plus parts are plentiful and aftermarket support is HUGE compared to the likes of a GV. |

Thanks for the reply's Yes it will tough going especially rocky outcrops. To answer Mr Rocky: I haven't sat in one yet, went yesterday to the dealers to do so and they had them all locked ? Had a 09 110 LR ute back in 2014. Now that was cramped. Even when its raining you need to have the window down to be able to turn. However there will never be another vehicle that comes close to its capabilities straight off the showroom floor. Alien: Had hiluxes, very limited wheel travel without major upgrades and the comfort is non existent, let alone power.Absolute death traps in the wet also. Heaps of %$#* IMO. My choices are limited due to early forced retirement without a lot of funds. |

It sounds like your not after a heap of offroad ability, just something thats definitely 4x4 to get you out of a sticky situation, bit of room and cheap. Rav4, or petrol80/GQ, maybe even suby range might be enough. Dunno. |

Im not sure either will be keen on tough rocky outcrops especially in the middle of nowhere. A gq shorty might be a better option. A sierra would handle the rocky stuff but be underpowered and uncomfortable without work. 8-9k worth of suitably modified lwb sierra with an efi conversion or gq shorty or even gu wagon would be my choices |
