Hi All. Looking for advise as to where / how to mount a custom rear bar ( heavy ) on my Sierra SJ50 1988. Any photos / ideas of your rigs would be much appreciated. Thks Chris. |

10mm flat plate between the tow bar and chassis. Just add longer grade 8.8 bolts |

Personally, I'd be trying to make a rear bar as light as possible. The added weight isn't helping the car one bit and there's very little added protection provided by a rear bar due to the rear overhang being so short. |

I mounted my led lights on my tail gate and just had a single pipe welded across the 2 10mm plates on mine . It was only there so i could reverse by feel when turning around on narrow dead end tracks |

^This. pointless having a heavy rear bar when you back into a tree and smash the tailgate. Cars with very vulnerable quarters and long rear overhang can benefit from a rear bar, so not a sierra then. |

I put a pipe through the xmember and welded plates onto it. Bolted the rear bar to the plates. Bar had a swing away to carry a full sized spare and incorporated a hitch receiver into it. In hindsight, it was a prime example of a pointless sierra mod. It was stupid heavy and offered no real functional improvement. Car was more capable with it removed. Stock rear bumper ftw Stock tow bar is good for towing. I unbolt it when not towing. 2 bolts vs pin and a bolt with lock nut on a hitch receiver. |
