Hello all, I was wondering what revs the 1 litre sierras run at when going say 100kmph and 50kmph (3rd). I've installed an aftermarket tachometer and I'm unsure whether it is reading correctly (say 7500rpm for 100kmph and about 5000 for 50kmph, I'm unsure though, I'll have to check at a later time.) does the 1 litre actually perform at those high revs or is there something up? Your input is appreciated. |

From memory 1.0 cruise at 5200rpm @100 Steve. |

Just re-crunched the numbers and that is correct. In 4th at 50km/h then revs would be 2600. |

Thanks, I must've wired the tacho up wrong then, any ideas of how to fix/adjust it to make it read correctly? |

in your original post you mention (3rd) as in 100kmph and 50kmph (3rd). are you refering to doing 100kmph and 50kmph in third gear because 100 in third gear is about 7300rpm. if this is the case change into fourth and you will be doing 5100rpm I have a friends car who runs a 1 litre in his lj and its happy at nearly 6000 at 1000 and will rev regularly out to 9000+ |

My experience is they blow up cruising at high rpm over extended periods |

My experience is they drop valves into the block running at high revs for extended periods. With the tachometer when I put one in my old 1ltr I had to set it to 8cyl for it to read right, 100 in 4th was about 6200 (4.88 centres) |

Oh sorry for the confusion, I was meaning what it ran at for 100km in fourth gear and what it ran at for 50km in 3rd, I have my tacho set for 4 cylinder so I'm guessing my wiring might be the problem. |

There a strong motor.. I had one drop the clip from a gudgen pin and the pin kind of ate the bore wall, it knocked kinda bad Another had a big drink of mud at about 9000rpm.. amazingly it ran again. #1 piston was 5mm low.. And i have punished them for years |

I hydro locked one of mine, changed oil and oil filter In it, it ran for years after roughly 80,000km before it dropped vales and totalled it. Another one just decided to drop vales for the hell of it. I did push them hard and not look after them. They are pretty strong I wouldn't see a Commodore v6 lasting as long as the F10a with the same treatment |

They wear camshaft lobes rather bad without regular oil changes. Id be reluctant to sit above 90 on the speedo if you intended on keeping the car for a while. Everyones gunna say they love the revs and they live forever but reality is they dont its just most people get fed up with 30kw of power and swap to a 1.3 I also dont think its physically possible to rev one to 9000rpm |

Well considering the tacho only has five wires running to it, all hooked up to the right spots I doubt it's wired wrong. I would expect an accurate reading for a new $80 tacho. I'll try and switch to different cylinders to see if I get a better reading. |

Is green wire on mine. No problem really I'll figure it out, if it's still not going to give me a good reading I'll let everyone know that Saas tachos aren't worthwhile haha. Any electritions of sorts know if using a thicker gauge wire from the coil would affect reading? |

Gonna throw this out there. Have you checked to make sure your earths are okay? When I installed my Saas water temp gauge, I thought it was broken because it always read wrong and would act funny, but as soon as I put an earth from the body to the battery (as it was lacking this) it fixed 90% of my electrical issues in the car. |

Hmmm I haven't considered this, I figured if it lit up and everything then the earth would be fine, but I'll give it a try and see if that helps, thank you |
