Hey guys
I have a 99 GV V6 and on the down shift to 2nd gear and even sometimes high revs up shift to 2nd and 3rd
its like the noise you make when you try and put the car into reverse and your still rolling forward that little bit (teeth grinding)

and yes the cluch pedal is flat to the floor when changing gears

whould anyone have any ideas what the problem is ????

Peter

Where does the clutch pedal take off? High or low? Does the clutch slip?
Could be worn syncro's in the gearbox. Or maybe the clutch needs adjusting?

I would suggest changing the gearbox oil and putting an additive in. If that doesn't fix it you'll need to go further.

Most likely a worn or cracked synchro ring.

same thing happens when you have no oil in the gearbox

my hilux has just started to do the same thing, my first thought is to bleed the clutch slave cylinder and then after that drop the oil in the box and look for broken bits

my sierra has been doing the same for a while. i drained the oil but there
were no bits so i put 2 tubes of sincro's in a tube in the box along
with some 85/140 gear oil.
as a result off doing this i can comfortably say don't do what i did as it made it worse.

how much would it be to repllace the syncro's in the gearbox ??

and the cluch takes off towards the top and no no cluch slipping

might be a long shot but chuck some new oil in the box. the grinding is the syncro's but new oil will help a little

It sounds like the clutch could be near the end of it's life. Do you know how old it is? But before you do anything, change the oil and see what happens.
You will be looking at a fair bit to do the syncro's! Ring the Diff and Gearbox Shop in Wilston (3356 8397) and talk to Steve. Mention you talked to Vaughan (me) from Sargent and he will look after you.

Learn to double clutch and you won't need synchros :-)

i just had a thought would it be cheaper to get another gear box (about $450-$500) or just get mine fixed if it is the synchros
