Hi dudes!!

I've got a conundrum to run by you all. So I drowned one of my sierras a few weeks back (well, I wasn't driving or even I the car at the time, but result much the same). Water got into the air intake and fuel tank, muddy horrid water and I haven't been able to get it running properly since.

So, it's an '84 LWB with a Webber carby. Things I have done are;

1- cleaned the carby out around 6 times (doesn't appear to be getting gunk in it anymore however), stripped apart and blown out the jets and lines etc.

2- blown out fuel lines repeatedly with compressed air. Replaced both online filters (I run two of them)

3- swapped fuel tank as there was gunge in the bottom.

4- replaced starter, was giving me crap.

5- replaced the generator and igniter from inside the dizzy as I wasn't getting a consistent or powerful spark (this seems to have resolved the problem

6- oils and filter change etc

7- new fuel

8- checked for vacuum hose/port leaks

Ok, so another curious anomaly. When I changed to dizzy bits over I had the whole dizzy out, messed up the timing but no real problem.

I found roughly TDC on 1st cylinder after the compression stroke and popped the dizzy in according to the FSM from there. BUT!! Neither the fly wheel nor the harmonic balancer has any notches or marks for setting the timing!! So is there another way to confirm the timing at all? Or to find the exact location the 10 deg mark supposed to be on the flywheel without removing the gearbox?

Any other problems you guys can think of?

Someone said the ERG could be playoff up but I've just no experience or knowledge of how it works or how to test its function.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

Oh!! I should ad that it's symptoms are

Won't idle at all.. Runs on higher revs (2k+) but badly.. Pops and tries to stall etc..

Also I've noticed that the throttle butterfly isn't closing properly on its own. I can feel a metal grating when I close it off by hand. Not a fan of Webbers at all

Someone on here said it emulsifies the water, but you did a lot more than me to remove the water.

I would have thought I'd got rid of it, however it did seem to have an amazing ability to still come through.. Even though I can't find anymore mud and water I might just try it as it can't hurt and may well help.

I'm still intrigued about the timing and the throttle not closing properly (the throttle may already have been somewhat sticky pre-flood)

Ok, tried the metho thing and thus far it hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to check the timing? Was pondering today if I could take the harmonic balancer off and pop one on which has a timing notch on it? Then I can pop the timing light on it perhaps

Any thoughts on the ERG valve causing issues?
