G'day guys, so I've had the standard 1.3 in my sierra for the last few years and it goes well, loves 8k rpm and what not but I've heard the 1.6 (efi) which I'm going to soon aren't so fond of the higher rpms. Do they blow up much from this and can you fit a new ignition system to turn the limiter down to say 5500rpm or is it not an issue? Also, I've flooded the old 1.3 a few times, and all I've had to do is drain the water out of the fuel tank (haven't sucked any in), how do the EFIs handle the water? Does the ECU die form a bit of water an can you seal them up, anything else you need to waterproof? Cheers. |

Factory rev limit at 6400rpm ish Seems adequate. Other than that treat ut like any other zook motor if u want it to live |

I've revved my 1.6 to about 6700 and at that point it rev limits... i've only done it once or twice, realistically if your gearing is good and you chose the right gear for the task at hand you shouldn't need to hit the limiter. I also doubt the 1.3 "loves" 8000rpm =) Though i have seen a 1.3 sierra hold RPM well off the tacho down a hill for about 2km because the owner couldn't justify an engine upgrade unless the 1.3 was dead. He drove it like that for about 6 months before selling it on, and i saw it about 6 months later and it was still going strong! |

Downhill in low gear (or full throttle in neutral) would probably be the only way to get a 1.3 to 8000 rpm, they typically run out of breath at around 5500, and whilst they will eventually reach the 6500 redline, there is little point in it. |

Maybe in 5th gear, but when i had the 1.3 in mine 1st, 2nd, 3rd all pulled hard to redline no worries. I never really went past about 7000 though. |

Think your tacho might be out The g13bb and 16b rev limit is lower than 6700 |

My original Sierra motor loved to rev with the weber on it. would pull hard all the way to 7k and max out at 8k. It had 380,ooo kmson it and didnt have alot of compression when i finally let it retire. Was a 1324cc. |

Can vouch for the "rev-ability" of the 1.3. Although it struggled past 3rd, all it had was a jetted up stock carb and extractors/exhaust. I tried killing mine for a while and it soon earned my respect so I chose to stick with it, that and the fact the G16 I bought was too far gone once I pulled the head off. |
