Hi All, Welcome to my first post as a recent Suzi buyer of a 2004 auto XL7 classic. I could tell the shocks were shot when I bought the car, and the original springs appeared to be sagged, so I had a 35mm lift HD Ironman lift kit installed, with adjustable camber pin. It was an awesome improvement, until a week later, one of the sway bar link pins snapped while the suspension extended over a dip in the road. My mechanic suggested I get extended sway bar link pins to allow for the lift. I haven't seen such items on the Ironman site, only extended link pins for Patrols with 4" lifts and the like. Has anyone else snapped sway bar link pins, and any suggestions to rectify? Specifically for an 04 GV? Thanks, Mark |

First - other folks have broken the end links, but they have been running more than 35mm of lift. Second - extended links will not solve the problem. Start by taking a look under the vehicle - the sway bar end links are below the control arms - a lift pushes the arms and the swaybar downwards, extended links will push the bar further down, further aggravating the situation. The problem is that as the arms move downwards, the end links move inwards, increasing the strain on the end links - for a 35mm lift, I don't see why you should be having an issue -- I'm running OME which is roughly the same lift and I have no problems. |

I was always breaking the stock ones so i made my own using steering rack ends of some old honda hatchback from the wreckers. Had to drill out the mount on the end of the sway bar but they havent broken since and its copped a floggin. thats with 75mm or so of lift on 31's |

I seem to recall reading that running them inverted works? I never had to worry about it on mine as it was stock height. www.whiteline.com.au is also a good source for end links of various types/ dimensions. |

Wont it clash with the chassis rails on compression. |

The sway bar bolts to the chassis rails, I believe just forward of where they start to angle upwards, and the point at which the sway bar itself is bent forwards is wider than the rails, so there is no way for it to make contact - my suspicion however, is that as the suspension compresses, the bar may foul, either on the control arm, or on the floor pan, depending on how much the arm moves - I do remember one occasion on which I was on my back under the car with the bar in my hands re-installing it, and wondering if it could be done, and concluding that it couldn't, but I did not actually try it. |

I think it had been done on a gv/xl7 with calming lift from memory. |

Next time I'm under there I'll take a closer look - to me having the sway bar under the arms exposes it to potential damage from rocks and what have you - if it can go above, I'd relocate it. |
