Hello again..
i have some issues that I fail to solve.. so i came begging for help.

the vehicle:
1984 UTE
G16B Baleno conversion, EFI, coils

the problem:
at 4th or 5th gear, highway cruise, the engine wont rev up.
if i push the pedal to the metal the revs go up to 4K RPM and then decrease to 3300-3500.
also, last trip i did, in 4th gear and on a climb the engine wouldnt rev at all, pushing the pedal didnt do anything
the fuel consumption is OK, and in 1-3 gears it does not happen.
i think the car can drive alot better, after i put a new 1.75" exhaust pipe and new mufflers...


things that i think relevant:
Calmini headers, old exhaust system
Coily fuel tank with coily fuel pump - not EFI
maybe coils?

any help? please? ideas?

4th or 5th operating a switch for EGR creating an air leak?
Partially blocked mufler?
Fuel pump on its way out?

tire size: 235\85\16
standard axles with 6.4 transfer case gears

is there a operating switch for the EGR as JDK said? how can i find it?
wind resistance is not the reason..checked in various types of weather.

blocked muffler is an option...
so does the fuel pump...

From this side of the screen, I dont know who installed what and what components and which loom sections were bastardised together.

Between us and your car is the two monitors, the internet and another person (you).

The more info you can provide would save us time, and prevent many of us saying cbf and not type anything.

Who did install? When? Which type of baleno? Got pics?
What have you tried? What have you investigated? Have you worked through the factory service manual? Have you actually tried anything?

Blocked cat is possible... i just deleted mine in the process of trying to figure out some sluggishness and it certainly improved power across the rev range.. the cat was 9 years old and about 30% blocked up.

The fuel pump would be my first suspect - can it deliver enough fuel (volume) at enough pressure. Gearing would be my second suspect - you're running a relatively tall tire with standard gears, it works well in the lower gears but in 4th (which is 1:1) and 5th (which is an overdrive), the gearing may just be too tall.

By the way, wind resistance has little to do with the weather, the aerodynamics of the vehicle are the primary issue, and as the speed increases, it takes more and more power to move the vehicle through the air.

Was it originally a 1.0l?

84 ute shouldnt have a cat, but muffler could be blocked or restrictive. How much exhaust is original?

Gearing should be fine to tolerable based on diffs.
Does it have 1.0l nt or wt diffs?

Oh does the throttle open all the way?
On my baleno install, i noticed my sierra pedal hit the floor before wide open throttle.

I am sorry for the missing information... i will try to fill whats missing.

this issue started only the last weekend so i havent tried too much.

Steve: not EFI fuel pump - i mean it came from a single injection sierra and not a 16v multi-injection Vitara.

JDK: my car has WT diffs (3.73) and the gearing is OK
the Baleno is 2000, coil pack. i installed the engine including the ECU, switch, loom and everything.

I will check on the muffler and exhaust system and will update.
a LWB Vitara fuel tank is on its way to be installed on my car so it will solve the fuel pump issue.

i will update up ahead. got a tip to inspect the clutch, maybe its slipping...
