Hey guys

Got to the final stages of my Baleno G16b conversion last night, plugged in the ECU and almost immediately got smoke coming from the ECU. Admittedly (accident) I had the ignition turned onto the first turn before plugging the ECU in. Plugged the big connector followed by the medium connector then smoke started before I could get the small connector in.

Opened up the ECU and looks like it's fried. Question is I have no idea what could have caused the short. Open to any and all suggestions as to what to check now.

Cheers
Mike

Re check your wiring.

Pay attention to where you modified and connected things up.
It's easy to miss what's earthed or has + power.

There is a white wire on the pinout that is labelled power source, i put 12v to it and also cooked an ecu many years ago.
Throw ecu in the bin its no good now, im in wa but if you send me your loom unwrapped providing its not too hacked i can sort and label it i also have a couple spare ecu's.
Take a pic of your ecu

Good News! Got her started last night after a few hours of rechecking all wires. Good lesson for next time. Make sure the system is isolated from any power before plugging the ECU connectors in. Having only the big one plugged in and applying power will fry the board as there are two grounds missing which are located on the smaller plugs.

That is excellent news.. That sort of stuff can do your head in and stress levels through the roof.
When we fitted the g16 we got rid of a lot of old wiring and then discovered the brake lights and rhs indicator no longer worked...All sorted now but what a headache . Still have no head lights but that system is all being redone and not a problem.. (famous last words hey...)
