AW4 requires auto loom + auto ecus ( main ecu + sub ecu.)

Lots of little extra wires to add in around the cab, few extra lights for overdrive + economy/speed.

Possibly better off finding an auto Vitara and either swapping or selling yours.

Yep. no point making a conversion out of something Suzuki already built ( and are easy to find)

Autos are superior to manuals in all off road situations, with two provisos.

A) they can cover poor gearing due to the torque converter, but poor gearing results in lots of torque converter heat and poor engine braking
B) there isn't a sensible alternative to dropping the clutch to clean the tyres out of you do lots of muddy climbs. Yes, you can neutral drop but this is hard on the auto. Because my car is very low geared I have sometimes has tombeutral drop in high range to generate enough wheelspeed to get the car moving

I wouldn't own a manual 4wd by choice. My defender is very good offroad as a manual but it has anti stall, a very powerful
Hand brake and very low gearing which closes the gap in performance a bit between the gearboxes.

Just for the record, ecus are interchangeable between manual & auto Vitaras.

The auto Vitara has a separate transmission control computer.

Yes, but the manual ecu still has the output signal for the tcm. Ecus can be swapped between auto & manual versions.

Odd, the ECU for this car actually states AM for the main ECU and in my car ( both series 2 vitara setups ) had MT. Usually Auto ecus that I have played around with before have the idle bump up and few other bits and pieces, so you can use the auto in the manual but not the other way around.

By series 2 I'm guessing you're talking about the later (95ish) models with the mesh afm? I don't know about these, but the earlier ones can definitely be swapped both ways.
