Hey guys, Looking at getting my Zook lifted a bit, just wondering what brands are out there and who's had experience with them. I've seen the jimny bits "black raptor" lift for cheap as chips buy you have to question quality for that kind of price! Anyway let me know! Cheers!

That tyre size will fit without lift.....just. Ironman do a good all round lift but is a bit pricey Dobinson do a cheap lift but struts are crap. A 40mm suspension lift is easy and cheap. just pick the kit you want |

245/70/16 are the same diameter as a 225/75/16 but 20mm wider. you will have to remove mud flaps and maybe flatten the pinch welds. I had 225/75/16s when i first bought mine and ran them with no lift. |

Yeah alright then, he also said something about only being able to increase your tyre size by 15 mm legally? So would the better option be to buy the tyres and then fit them at home? And take it up to be aligned later? |

Yeah went down to a different shop and because my car plated for a 235/60/R16 and the class of the vehicle I can only go 15mm bigger in my tyre or its illegal |

Take your rims in, get tyres fitted then put them on you car yourself. It sounds like your going to a bobjane or one of the other big chains where they all now try to cover themselves by saying thats too big and thats illegal for "US" to fit. |

Yeah thanks chop that's right, I guess the last question I have is if I were to have an accident would my insurance company try and wiggle their way out of it? Especially considering I'm only a P plater? It's not like the tyres are freakin big muddies or anything I'm sure that if you were a cop driving beside me you wouldn't even notice, especially because I don't drive like a twat! |

Your profile says your in QLD. the laws here are for 4wd (excluding soft road AWD) you can legally lift 50mm and go up in overall diameter by 50mm giving a total max lift of 75mms.body lifts are not legal without a certificate. I'm going with 40mm lift and 235/70/16. This will fit bit I have no guards and punched arches. |

If you live in a state that allows up to a 50mm increase in tyre diameter on an off road vehicle then that is acceptable on a 1st gen GV. It is category MC which is exactly the same as a patrol of landcruiser. If it had MA on the compliance plate then you are restricted to only a 15mm increase in diameter. |

I'd call any of the SQ's a 1st gen. If you check the compliance plate under the bonnet on the drivers side it says vehicle category MC. Which means it's an off-road passenger vehicle. |

Yeah had a look and mine says MC however the link that 300NA sent through mentions that you can put a 50mm bigger tyre on your MC class vehicle provided it's not a soft roader which the 1998-2005 GV is? Unless you guys are saying that because it's an MC it's technically not a soft roader? |

Who has said the GV is a soft roader? It meets all of the approach, ramp over and departure angles for MC classification, has a full ladder frame chassis and a low range gearbox. |

Sorry if I haven't explained what I meant clearly but that's what I was trying to get at. The blokes at Bob Jane are definitely not experts in adr vehicle categories and in most cases don't know anywhere near as much about cars as they think. The vehicle has met the MC classification and has a full chassis/ low range gear box if they can't tell you exactly why they classify it as a soft roader in facts other than their own opinions then as suggested earlier by others find somewhere better to help you. |

Yeah going somewhere else isn't going to help my case if everyone think it's a soft roader, would queensland transport have a list of soft roader vs. 4WD requirements that I can print out and give to the tyre shop so they know that I have all the facts to back me up? Well if you don't want to spell it out to them and point at compliance plates and wave printed pdfs proving it then find another tyre supplier. Not everyone will think it is a soft roader, particularly tyre dealership that specialise in 4wd treads. If they do question it, shoot them down, point to compliance plate, wave pdf. Chops suggestion is best. Get them to fit tyres to your rims only. There is also the other headache they don't want to deal with; tyre clearance issues. |

Even if it meets the requirements the manufacturer has to apply for each vehicle they import. The classification is stamped on the compliance plate. As others have said this specific model in question from the OP is a 'proper' 4wd in the eyes of the law/regulators. The latest model GVs are different. Even though they meet all of the design specs, Suzuki has made the decision to class all GVs in the same category as their 2wd variant. That is 'soft roader' and maximum 15mm bigger tyres. I can't tell you exactly when/what year Suzuki changed their classifications for the GV. The only way to know for sure is to look at the compliance plate on your vehicle. |
