Post subject:  Sierra Starter Motor MG410

Hi there, new to auszookers, and lucky enough to own a 1996 MG 410 Maruti.
Perfect for the farm, nothing as good as it!
Have an issue with the starter motor, and have just bought a new one from a supplier.
My question is, the starter motor I have removed has 9 teeth on the gear, the new one has 8 teeth, same size and fit but not sure if the new one is right or wrong?
Any suggestions, thanks.

If the gear on the new starter motor has the same pitch then it will be a physically smaller gear. It will need to sit slightly closer to the flywheel ring gear for it to mesh properly. The bolt holes on the new motor body may allow for correct alignment so worth checking. (although I think this is unlikely)

If the gear is physically the same size as the old one the pitch will be different and may start to munch things pretty quickly if you use it.

Very difficult to tell without seeing it. (if you need some instructions on posting photos http://www.auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50517)

Thanks watermouse, all sorted.
New Starter in, and no issues.By the look of the teeth on the old starter (9 teeth) and the ring gear, the old starter was actually not fitting properly and possibly the wrong motor.
Cheers!
