this might be a silly question for some, but i was wondering why haven't we heard anything about people using falcon 4.1 motors for conversions. We have heard plenty about commodore 3.8V6, but what about the ford version? They use 250 crossflows in the landcruisers for a conversion.

too long? old Greg 1madengineer put a 202? red motor in his old rock buggy and went ok.

i had a 250 crossflow in a XA falcon , went awesome. so not sure why they'd have a bad reputation.

the unleaded XF motors were pretty good I reckon, with a little cam they would shunt an XF to low 14's

a mate had a 250 in his old Cortina, it flew... a bit too fast for the driver :roll:

I reckon the 250's were pretty good, cept for up the back when they corroded

the 4.0 carp boxes were different though, I could even do em quick as teh work experience kid in a ford dealership I did that many :)

The xe/xf crossflow used to bend pushrods like they were going out of fashion. Why you would'nt use one in a Zook? Too long, too heavy, and were designed by engineers that smoked a little too much wacky tobacci in my opinion.

someone was doing a BA XR6 Turbo motor with after market computer for a Patrol a while back. awsome power upgrade but didnt hear the end result.

plus alot of drag boys were putting ney 4.0 turbo motors into old cortina's. were good for 10 sec 1/4 mile times.

Fark knows, I lost count

There was some problems with the first of the AU's I think. It has been quite a few years since I did them.

The old xf's are pretty tuff for a shitbox ford. The natives around here manage to keep them going quite well.

I put a cleveland V8 in a sierra and it over hung the front by 150 mm. The harmonic balancer was in line wth the front of the springs

So I think the 4.1 might be a touch long

yeah i wasn't planning on putting one in a Sierra, just a general discussion on the motor because i never hear anythig about them.

Still not sure why you would want to use a Ford straight 6 for any type of conversion. If I wanted to shoehorn a straight 6 into an engine bay, I'd choose a Nissan 6. They've been building strong perfomance 6's for years and have got their shit down pat.

x2 on the Nissan 6! My XF3 ute had a balanced and blueprinted motor that went really well coupled with the factory 5 speed box and lowered suspension.

I've had just about all versions of the 250 from a log 250 to a log 250-2V to X-flows with iron and alloy heads over the years.
Flogged crap out of all of them and NEVER had a problem except the 2V did break a valve spring.
I put a 250-2V into a MK Patrol (formerly diesel) and it was 1000% better.
Put a 250 X-flow into a Toyota Coaster bus.
Even put one in a 19 foot boat.
I'd recommend them as a strong motor IF the budget and application are right as there are better motors available now... EG: BA XR6

stuff using an nissan ( i dont like nissan and that is personal prefrence) use a toyota six 2jz thay are unstopable

ive got a 4.0 au2 the engine is great no problems stacks of power
heaps of torque ill buy anouther falcon six next upgrade no question
