| Post subject: | 2000 Baleno G16b into 1994 Vitara |
Hey guys, Recently my 1994 vitara threw a rod and cracked the g16b engine block. So I went ahead and purchased a 2000 suzuki baleno for an engine transplant. I was wondering if anyone has done this before, if so, is it a straight forward swap? What needs to be changed from the baleno g16b to suit the vitara? Any help would be greatly appreciated |

I have replied to your pm. But ask away on this post, so others can help and/or learn stuff. May be slow responses over holidays. |

I fitted a low k import from enginsplus They had Vitara donks, but were way more cost. I used a dizzy type, not the coil pack type. Was from around 95 - 96 model Had to change to Vitara cam, as Baleno stuck out too far. May not be an issue if going to coil pack donk. Had to change sump, oil pick up, and refitted the Vits bearing cradle. I believe Baleno may be stronger than Vit, but I like to be sure. EFI donks imported can be G16A and G16B Mine was a B to start with and the A went in fine. I assume you have a LWB or has an efi conversion been done to a shorty |

Thanks for replying to my p.m, That's awesome mate, just the information I was looking for. I do have a couple of more questions, the baleno engine has electronic ignition, the old vitara has a distributor system. Can I leave the electronic ignition system on the baleno engine for the vitara installation? Also, would you happen to know if the vitara loom plugs into the baleno engine? Or will some modification need to be done? Really appreciate the help! |

I re used my Vitara dizzy, complete with its original innards, so loom was all plug n play for me. Baleno may need the Baleno ecu and loom, but don't know this, just guessing. Need to ask people have done the coil pack motors. I kept mine simple, so be easier and cheaper, but electronic would be cool |

Baleno have different ECU to 94 Vitara. 2000 model will have Crank & Cam sensor. To keep coil pack set up You need a vitara sump with Crank sensor mtg holes or modify yours. Some creative plumbing for top radiator hose from rear of engine. Custom ECU/Engine Loom integrated to vitara one Easier to keep existing electrical set up I think, just swap cam, dizzy, manifold etc. over. More info viewtopic.php?f=5&t=51664&p=886500&hilit=%2Abaleno+cam%2A#p886500 If you need vitara sump with Crank sensor holes, I have one ... somewhere.. |

Ah jeez sounds like too much stuffing around lol I just want to get this thing running. Might just use the vitara loom onto the baleno engine and transfer the dizzy across. Once the dizzy is installed, will the vitara loom just plug onto the baleno motor? Or will the loom off the vit need to be modified to suit the baleno engine? Thanks a lot for your help guys, appreciate it! |

You're overthinking this. The block and head is the same. You have to swap the vitara cam into the Baleno head so you get the distributor drive. This is the case regardless of what type of Baleno engine you have. You need to swap manifolds, sump, oil pickup and all bolt on accessories. You only use the block and head from the baleno. There are no baleno injection parts used - its all vitara. |
