Does anybody know if shocks/springs from a 2012 Grand Vitara will go into a 1990 Vitara? I've heard they possibly do and will give approx. 1-1.5" lift. If anyone can confirm that would be great. Cheers Josh |

They'll be high and hard. I believe the rear springs have a slightly different coil diameter at the top and can have issues seating. |

The 2012s (third generation) are a completely different suspension design to the two previous generations - I would be quite surprised if anything could be used - second generation (98~05) suspension parts are in most cases compatible with first generation (89~98) vehicles, and yes, second gen GV springs will provide some lift on first gen models. |

Oh good call Fordem. I was thinking about the second gen cars. (98-05) I agree I don't believe anything from a 2012 is compatible. |

The front springs are about twice the diameter on a 2nd Gen. GV (2005 on), as the strut is up the middle of them - not separate like it is on the earlier cars. There was someone on here who hacked a 2nd gen GV strut (cutting the coil seat off & modding the mounts to the spindle) that claimed it gave a longer strut than was otherwise available, but with CV angle issues, that's probably not such a flash idea either. The rear spring sits in a pocket in the IRS control arm, not on top of the solid axle diff, like it does in a 1998-2005 GV or Earlier Vitara. I haven't paid enough attention to the look of the springs to even consider that they would be interchangeable, but like has been said, highly unlikely. Rgs, Michael |
