Thought l might give the LJ a birthday since it has to compete with the big boys.
When doing the ignition timing where is the plug to freeze the ECU and what does it look like?
More importantly which two wires do you jump
Do you set it at 5 btdc or 10 or somewhere between?

On an early Vit it's a 6 pin plug with one of the corner pins blanked making it a 5pin. It hides near the battery. Look up the FSM as Steve mentioned. 5deg BTDC for a 1st gen EFI vit. They appear to run fine at 10deg too. Usual disclaimer...

thanks gents but sorry I am no wiser for your troubles, wrt which wires to jump.

Ruebs I think I have a 4 pin but arent sure because I dont know what it looks like - I can only guess
Again only guess but if I have the right plug the wires to jump would be Blue yellow to black as in pin B to C

Jono I had read that link and there is a lot of good info in there but unfortunately it says to pin C and D and I have another doc saying pin B and C.

Contrary to what is thought I have googled and I have tried to get a FSM trouble is none of the ones I have found match mine. For those that may be able to assist it is '94 16B

I have total faith in the info on fixkick. It's a very useful site that I have needed a few times and jdk's post confirms it's correct.

both the 4 pin and 6 pin socket use the same wire and ground. it uses the "test switch terminal" and ground.

The test switch terminal is a blue with a red tracer . The diagram posted for the 6 pin is sort of wrong as even the unused pin is "A" so across the the top is a b c and across the bottom is d e f . in the 6 pin socket you jump d and e , in the 4 pin you jump c and d.

Well done gents you nailed it. Timing is done. For the non belebers out there, mine is a 4 pin and it was C and D and the colour were black and blue with red trace. Now for my next problem "Lockers"
